So which of all 3 is the best? focus/connexant/xcalibur? my xbox has connexant and it outputs horrible picture quality over official component cables...
Connexant aint a bad encoder, neither if the Focus, never had a problem with the focus actually on say 1.4 boards where they were most common.. Had an odd Connexant thats gone abit iffy, other than that they are pretty good aswell and as you probably know are common on V1.0 / 1.1 motherboards.. Never been keen on the Xcalibur personally, also the fact its on the 1.6a/b boards doesn't help, never liked the 1.6 boards personally, no option to upgrade the RAM etc is rubbish, most of it is built on the cheap aswell..
if they arent bad, then why do i have blocky vertical lines and all the videos have more noise than old ass anime?
yet runs in 480p by virtue of official component specs, (in contrast with the made-up 576p resolution supported by the PAL PS3 on EDTVs, stupid to say the least but I guess it's for DVD purposes mainly)
I was going to ask what this had to do with NTSC, but what I think you're getting at is that the visual problems Eva's getting are due to poor upscaling. Not really sure where the blocky vertical lines would come into it though, sounds more like a chipset issue to me.
I just meant that although the colorspace isn't NTSC-standard, the amount of scanlines is, even on PAL units (correct me if you have evidence than the XBOX does 576p)
So what's it like over RGB? Or even composhite? I've tested hundreds of Xboxes of all versions and not seen such problems - but the tests were done with a standard MS composite lead.
Its not that noticable on all games, it's very noticable while playing jet set radio future, and very grainy videos on all games.
Does it only happen on a component lead, though? And have you tried a totally different television? Or a different lead? http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=1528 It seems we're blaming one element here when we haven't ruled out the rest.
funny thing is it only happens during 480i, progressive scan games are fine... is there a way to force progressive on all games?
Often you find that LCD TVs look awful on analogue connections. I guess they can do the same with lower resolutions, maybe? Not an issue for you, but at one point, PAL Xboxes didn't do progressive. Did they ever implement it on PAL machines? As for forcing it, I don't think you can. I would imagine it would depend on whether the game supports it. Try this list: http://www.hdtvarcade.com/hdtvforum/index.php?autocom=custom&page=xboxa
wrong, LCDs look awful with any interlaced signal, even digital ones (if there was ever such a thing) - component looks fine on LCD - that's how my 360 is hooked to my PC monitor, and component is analogue. got you there retro;p
