Hey I'm trying to use component cables on my Xbox ( sort of with unleashX 0.37) and the component cables output black and white. In the ms dashboard it doesn't say anything about resolution and I can't change the resolution in unleash x. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

On a YPbPr component cable, the console outputs Luma (Y) on the green jack. This would send the black and white image to the TV, the same as S-Video. Since you don't have blue, red, or green, it sounds like the Pb (Luma-Blue) and Pr (Luma-Red) lines are damaged. Green would be filled in by the TV itself if you are wondering but from what I've seen on my HDTVs, it looks like HDTVs only displays green when you have 2 or more of the RCA plugs plugged in (green plug is required).

Can you try this cable on an unmodified Xbox? Also, is this a homemade component cable, third party, or official?

Is your xbox set to ntsc by default? If it's PAL you need to use something like enigmah video switcher (included on discs such as Hexen) to switch to ntsc, then in MS dash I *think* you should be able to see options for resolution.

I think I had a problem years ago though where one of my tvs would show similar problems - when I connected the xbox to a different tv it worked fine. If you can try it out on a different tv to rule that out that might help.
