I made a post recently relating to an 360 XDK that had a bad HDD in it's sidecar it's been replaced now and the kit is fully functional sans the data, I'm working on recovering the data, but i digress.

Anyways, i was curious if it's simple to swap out an Xbox Original XDK's (or debug) HDD with another HDD provided i clone the original as it's inevitable that the original HDD will fail at one point or another, unlike a retail which requires a hardmod in order to be able to do that.

I don't have an Xbox Original XDK or debug but was just merely curious if the same restriction applies to dev units as it does to retails in relation to the HDD being tied to the motherboard.

Debug and devkit harddisks aren't locked, so you can easily clone them.
In order to get some files of them, you will need an OS that can read the fatx file system.
For linux there exist fusefatx that can mount fatx partitions.

Yes. Replace it with an applicable speed drive and both the OG debut as well as 360 xdk can simply pop in new drive, run recovery, profit.
