ok I know everyone’s going on about Xbox360 and all games running in 720p, well I don’t have a 720p screen in my room I have one in the living room but not in my bedroom that’s where I do most of my gaming. Now my question is will there be much difference in quality over running in 480p to 720p noticeable difference to justify replacing my 42†Panny for a HD equivalent (closes I’ve seen is about £2200). I really didn’t want to upgrade my screen until blu-ray/HD-DVD are mainstream. I love how the current Xbox looks on my screen and will only replace it if there is a very noticeable difference in picture quality. So any advice would be great form ppl that have seen the Xbox360 in action, I personally have played Perfect Dark and King Kong on the 360 in 720p and they looked awesome but had nothing to compare it too.
IGN tested it out on Halo 1 and 2 and said that jaggies were gone and it was smoother in 720p. Bungie also has a screenshot comparison for Halo 2. http://www.bungie.net/images/news/inlineimages/comparison2.jpg
so are both the screen shots taken on the Xbox360 running in 480p and 720p or is the 480p shoot from the Xbox and the 720p off the Xbox360? I really dont want to shell out 1.5k+ to upgrade my screen but if thats the difference in quality I may have too
480p to 720p. I just bought a new TV this summer, and it isnt an HDTV. Im going to wait until those are reasonably cheap. And after Im tired of my new TV. I dont see any happening soon. BTW, thats magnified A LOT. That is a pic taken from this: They cropped out Johnson's face, and showed the difference. It wont make MUCH of a difference since he is so far away, anyway. So you can shell it out if you want to, but I think it is uneccessary.
HD TV prices in the UK are criminal at the moment. I'm holding out for a while and just playing them on a LCD screen till they get serious with the pricing. BTW I love the screen in the demo pods (played in oxford hmv today). Though that has got to be pretty expensive.
Think about it. if the core system only comes with composite cables, then of course the 360 can display any or all its games at 480p. Grant it, MS said to developers that all games are to be 720p and up or they won't be allowed to develop, but some developers are working around that to make it look like HDTV, but not exactly be true HDTV.
Composite cables can't support 480p. Composite cables can only support 480i (assuming you're talking about NTSC). -hl718
