xboxlive changing profiles?

Please bare with me.

Today I got Aliens colonial marines from my sister for the 360. I know it had quite a few bugs, so I looked up possible updates which there are. To get these I believe I had to log onto xboxlive.

Years ago back in original xbox days I made a profile (omp180) which I never used (so has nothing on it). This is of course tied in with my email address. When I got a 360, soon after launch, I created a new profile (PETE) which is not tied to any email, simply created on the console itself.

Of course the later has my scores etc yadda yadda. I tried to log onto/create an xboxlive account with the newer profile and of course it whinged at me due to the old profile name being tied to my email. So I found my old profile and logged successfully onto xboxlive and downloaded the update. All good (I guess).

What I would like to do is to transfer my new profile (PETE) and link it to my email address. Can I do this?

I know I cannot transfer saves, collectibles etc between profiles, but can I do the above?

I have no great ambition to play online, it is more of a convenience standpoint. I played a bit of the game today. What I did was log onto xboxlive with the old account, downloaded the update, then signed in with the new account for the brief play.

 

I guess you should change your e-mail addrress on the current real Xbox Live Account, so that it opens up that e-mail address again so you can use it with your current offline account. Do note that it's highly unlikely that "PETE" is still available, so you'll end up with a different nickname.

 

I dont think so, once the account has been made they're permenantly attached to each other

Nope, your gamertag is tied to your Microsoft account.

 

So maybe create a second hotmail account and use that for my "main" gamertag.

 

Well, I had the same issue as you. It's a pain in the ass honestly... give it a shot can't say for sure if it will work or not.

 

iirc you can change your gametag once for free....but there is also a option to pay to change it too
also you can actually transfer saves between profiles by transferring them all to a usb stick and signing them for the new account using a tool like modio (haven't done any of that for years so there might be some new better tool), but basically google xbox "360 save resigning" and im sure you will get some relevant links
