    Hi,

I was pointed to this forum by someone at X-S, I have a few questions about some XBOX hardware I picked up over the past week.

    Firstly, XDK:

I've picked up a complete XDK unit (console, dvd card, hdd etc), on the bottom it has a couple of stickers stating its a Prototype and not authorized by the FCC etc. It has a sticker in the middle of the unit with the following info:

    *X0160-600*
    XBOX Development Console
    December 2001 - Euro

Can someone tell me if this is DVT4 hardware? and if it is final or are there other version above this? Unit is sealed, casing never opened. Unit is running XDK launcher 1.00.4627.1 and has a few beta builds of Reign of Fire loaded onto the unit. Really interested if anyone has info on this unit, could I load the very latest XDK on it without harm?

    Onto Debugs:

This one is a debug kit produced in 2001-08-22, normal translucent casing with "Debug Kit" text on front of case. 120V/NTSC. Unit is sealed, casing never opened.

Next up is a strange one, this debug kit was producded in 2002-10-02 with normal translucent casing and is 220V/PAL. The strange thing about this one is that it does NOT have "Debug Kit" text on the front of the casing. The stickers on the bottom indicate it is a debug kit, unit is sealed and has casing never been opened. Unit has proper XDK launcher and a full 128mb as normal. Has anyone ever seen a true debug kit like this that was missing it's "debug kit" text on the front of the casing?

If anyone has any info to offer on my XDK and my strange debug kit, it would be great. I plan to post pictures soon but it's not easy on 56k :)

    Thanks
    John

Plastic, I guess it's DVT4 then :) Do you know if using the very latest XDK Recovery would damage the unit?

    Thanks

Your XDK is a DVT4 and that is the final revision of XDK hardware. You should have no problems installing a newer XDK.

as far as i understand running the xdk recovery disc would format the hd, and if the unit is working fine i can't see a reason to use it.

Well I don't have the latest recovery/xdk disk set yet. The lastest I have is an August 2001 release for beta hardware. I'm still trying to source an original disk set for the latest recovery/xdk. Also trying to track down recovery disks for my debug units.

I might look for a DVT3, I see the jewel looks cooler ;)

While the DVT3's do look nice, you would only be able to run build 3827 of the xdk due to the hardware.

You actually don't need the discs to recover to a newer build on your DVT4. SDK's are floating around which come with a remote recovery option.

Indeed, would be nice if I could find an original disk set for the latest recovery and xdk builds though.

Yes I have but only pal ones, there 100% official. One of are members here was selling one not to long ago for a good price. Also dont use the August 2001 beta recovery disk on your DVT4,it can brick your DVT4 most likely, its used on the DVT3,also is this the same disk you have for the xbox sdk you have.http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y1...KBeta1-2001.jpg

    Hi,

Yea, if I need to run recovery at all i'll be waiting to get ahold of an up to date recovery disk :)

Thats not the disk I have where yours says "Beta-1 2001" mine says "August Preview 2001". Also under the MS logo mine says "For use with BETA hardware only". Part number is X08-46288. Will try to post pictures later today.

    Thanks
