Okay real quick, I'm going on vacation early tomorrow morning which is in 5 hours, I am taking my XeDK with me which is easy to hide under the seat but I don't want to take a bunch of games with me, I purchased a 750w inverter for the car so I can game while my room mate drives us to his family's place. Problem is instead of getting my game's stolen or scratched I want to bring backups incase the dev hits a bump or something I don't have much cash to shell out for scratched retail games. So I want to bring my backup's but here is the problem I flashed my benq dev drive to the latest hacked firmware off xbins and spoofed the key but when I put a backup in it just reads in xexmenu as AUDIO_TS VIDEO_TS System update Which is weird because system update is within the iso itself and audio/video ts means it can't detect the format. Anyway I was just going to bring my twenty gig hard drive and rip games to xexmenu and use it to patch the games on the road but it doesn't seem to read backups properly. The drive firmware should be the same as retails and I spoofed the drive's key so I don't know wtf could be causing it. Any ideas?
Correct I believe devkit's have key's of FF pair's I may try this later, if this is the case the drive has been replaced in this kit. Normally a devkit behaves like a DVD drive but there have been reports of people flashing their kits to recognise retail/backup game's but because of the xex being retail it was useless unless the xex's could be converted with xexmenu now they can so I'm trying to utilize the correct firmware on this benq to run backup's on the trip since I do not have an external hdd. I will try the FF pair in a bit.
Ok wow idk where to start. Um... Back in the day on like a super old recovery you could run retail loader, that you had to have a flashed dvd drive. Retail loader no longer works that way now. Best thing to do is extract the game to you pc patch the xex for dev then just burn the files to a disc, this works 100% for sure as I did it tonight. I just pulled the game files off my jtag with a usb stick patched them and burnt it to a disc. Pretty sure your dvd key is going to have to match still for that to work. I use the stock firmware on the dvd drive, never been modded ect. Burn a data disc with the files and it showed up fine, allowed me to go threw downloads for dlc, just doesn't allow for games on demand install, but it plays just fine, be sure to patch it first. Hawk
I was around back in the day when the retail emu existed. I just didn't want to say anything because I didn't know if that information was private it or not, that worked on a VERY old recovery and won't work for a jasper. That won't work as I have to put the games in a kreon and rip them and extract the image files and reburn them as a data disc but I don't have dvd dl's its been a long time since I made backups and my kreon is put up somewhere. I will just try the FF pair here in an hour and hit the sack I wake up in less then 5 hours =x
Nothing is ever private for too long. If you have back up games already and you said you are taking back ups so I assume that you do, you don't need a kreon drive to make a copy just a normal pc drive will work. extract them, patch them and put them all on a usb hdd and use xex to launch them. If you travel alot jtag+bighdd=priceless haha. Hawk
A devkit can do everything a jtag can with the exception of XeLL and multipair xex's. I could just as easily have brought a external TB with me for my dev but I don't like dishing out cash and as I have said before most games are more then 4.7 gigs and the reason I mentioned putting my kreon up is just to explain how long it has been since I made a backup or actually purchased DL discs.
Oh got cha, just figured you had an external, those things are every where. My b for the confusion, the jtag was thrown in because you don't have to worry as much about it getting stolen and all games run from disc or hdd, mostly though cause they are cheaper. Hawk
My devkit isn't getting stolen I removed the casing and put it under the seat for airflow it isn't going anywhere and you can't tell wtf it is.
Is there anything covering the top of it? Cause you could really be doing more harm then good if the top case isn't on just sayin. Hawk
As long as the fan tunnel is on the devkit will remain in fine condition, the top does not reflect airflow other than allowing it more air when removed. Nothing will get inside of the development kit as neither I or my roomate are reckless and its in a very secure non harmful area. Simply put I know how to handle electronics lol. Also I may just reassemble it before we go on trip.
the dvd key is required to unlock the game partition, or at least thats what i have been lead to believe. Though its strange you see the system folder? Is this to do with the new wave of games?
the system update is stored in the video partition, not the locked game partition that is why when a new update is stored on the disk it is described as a new video wave
The main update (the system update PIRS file for the system kernel) is still stored inside the game partition along with a manifest file which lists the other files that are stored on the DVD video partition.
I dont know why you would want to take your XDK with you and risk damaging it under your seat. What if you accidentally turn on the heater in the car? Instead of cooling it you would be baking it. Plus if you have the top cover off...That's just asking for something to get in there... Why dont you just go without it for a few days and actually go on a vacation?
You are *all* over the place with this one. 1) The System Update is there because it's supposed to be there. That's the way current retail discs are formatted. 2) Why would you think that flashing a DVD drive on a devkit would be a good idea? 3) You certainly don't need a Kreon drive to read the game partition of a retail Xbox 360 DVD. 4) The case does have an impact on airflow. Running the system with the case off will reduce volume through the fans (and through the shroud). Excepting all the other dirt and grime that's in a car that can manage its way into an open case, it's not the best idea for airflow reasons alone. 5) You have a devkit. Why are you mucking with DVD-Rs? Doesn't your devkit have a sidecar with a hard drive? If not, don't you have a retail 360 HD that you can slap on there? 6) When talking about game sizes, remember that disc images can be misleading. Most pirates make full images (filling a DL disc) because they're trying to duplicate an original disc and fool the Xbox Live checks. Since you obviously don't care about that, why not just dump only the game data, patch with xextool and then burn to standard DVD-R? 7) What Checksum said. -hl718
1) The system update folder does not show in the PC but shows in the Dev this status changed when I flashed the dev to FF 2) Why does that concern you? It has been talked about before that it is possible to get a devkit to "see" the retail game. I really don't feel like explaining myself. 3) You do unless you want to spend time disassembling your PC and hotswapping which at the time I was leaving the next morning >_> 4) Keeping the case off reduced temps down 10c and I brought compressed air with me and if you look above you will see that I already decided to reassemble before the trip. 5) I have 10 games I wanted to bring with me and my hard drive only holds 20 gigs if you read the post you quoted it explains that. 6) I had no dvd's and nothing to re-rip the game with and reburn and even if I did I couldn't do it in the time alotted yet again explained in the first post. 7) This might sound logical to some but this forum is so used to newbies with devkits and morons wearing helmets that sometimes it forgets that members know what they were doing. I was going to do some work over vacation and it gave me something to do in the car. I would not have it turned on under the seat I would brought it out from under the seat when plugged in and turned on and it was an eight hour drive I turned it on for a few games. I don't see how I am "all over the place" I stated a specific question that was not logically answered once this whole time. Nit pick Nit pick.
As mentioned, the SU folder is always there and will always show no matter what you put it in. If you're viewing the video partition in your PC or your devkit, you're going to see the SU partition. Your flashing of the DVD-ROM drive wouldn't change this. These are exactly the results you will get if everything is stock. It doesn't concern me, so much as it simply doesn't make any sort of logical sense. It's the kind of thing a newbie would do just because it's something they've done on a retail. If you've got a good, technical, reason for it I'd love to hear the rationale. I think it would be quite interesting. No, you don't need to disassemble anything. A DVD-Video disc and a paperclip are more than sufficient provided you have the correct software. I have never once taken apart a DVD-ROM drive nor have I ever installed a Kreon in order to rip a retail game. That is good. I guess I just assumed that you had a larger drive on hand. Thought everyone had at least a 60 if not a 120 these days. You do need the DVD-Rs to burn onto, but a standard DVD-ROM drive should have been sufficient for the ripping. One man's "expert" is another's "newbie." -hl718
Look I'm not trying to be a dick or anything I have just been losing my patients lately with people questioning my tactics and things without tackling the problem at hand. I know you mean well i am just losing my professionalism and patients with things like this. I just feel like I know what I'm doing and lately people have been beating around the bush. I was trying to do something with the drive and people tackle other situations. I had similar problems on xbox hacker when I was doing a jtag with bad blocks I needed a doner kv and instead of helping me out there were 3 pages of useless newbie stepping that just drove me insane and took to page three before someone gave me a donor kv. I posted this here to get quick answers and it got off topic again about things I really didn't want to talk about. Sorry if I have been on edge lately but I am about to lose an eye and have been in extreme pain. If you or anyone knows the answer to my question I welcome it otherwise the trip is done and over with and my dev is sitting right here intact and completely fine and I thank everyone for their concern but I know what do with hardware I have been doing this a while. Yes my I noticed my aditude has been on edge but its because of the nit picking and post teardowns that really fire me up so this takes a lot for me to say so I apologise for that but the way to avoid these reactions from me are just to help me with what I ask or kindly correct me instead of telling me "I'm all over the place". Please if anyone knows anything about devkit drive's let me know, also I have filled the key with FF and no change.
