I know most people won't care as few of you live in the UK and even fewer live near enough to croydon to go shopping there (if any). But it was my favourite game shop with so much awesome stuff at reasonable prices. i went there today, in search of atari 2600 games and to my horror, it was gone. I know there's one in hammersmith, but twas never as good for games or as easy to get to. So I guess this is goodbye to an awesome shop
I did, no joy, I think they might have taken the remaining stock to the hammersmith store, I'm going to have to check next time I'm in London.
RIP Gamestation at the top of James st. So many good memories in there. What confuses me is they went from one small shop to an even smaller shop 100 meters away.
I've got some pretty good stuff in X electrical hammersmith (its about 10 minutes away) - now that their Kingston and Croydon stores have closed they have condensed all the games into the hammersmith one. Don't know how much longer it will last though.
it's way way things are going in the UK, GAME & the supermarkets are forcing out all the smaller shops with their discounted top titles, there's not enough money to be made through hte retro stuff.
Well I often find that these shops have recent releases for like half the price of the supermarkets and GAME, though granted they are second hand. Have you seen how GAME and Gamestation advertise that they sell "retro games" just because they have 5 original Xbox games and 500 copies of Fifa for the PS2 in store. I saw one gamestation with three Ps1 games aswell, not exactly what they used to be before GAME bought them up....
Future Zone was cool then it became Electronics Boutique, was was good but ever since it became GAME it sucked. Also now GAME owns Gamestation, you would think it is weird that there is a Game 2 doors away from Gamestation in my town and has been for several years... WTF! BTW stores downsize partly because of less footfall means less demand for space and less space means cheaper bills - helps them weather the big online shitstorm running them into the ground, though their take the piss trade in offers and always demanding the RRP never helped.
I'm not sure I remember future zone and I only vaguely remember electronics boutique. In one of the towns near me they have a game inside a shopping centre, then another one like right outside, then a gamestation 2 minutes away.
Barkman computers was the Kingston shizz! Above the old Woolies for a while, really odd, just like a corner on a big floor which was part storage (clothes and shit) but mostly empty. (Now it's a mere shadow of its former greatness http://www.barkman.co.uk/) Gonna bust out Senjo No Okami II in their honour. Did get a few decent games / deals from FZ and XE (Kingston) over the years, but tbh I don't miss them too much. The odd quality importer specialist, those I miss terribly (in spite of their sometimes high prices).
I remember EB in my town (Barnsley) being utter crap compared to the Game especially with the trade-in prices.....but I still used the local cash converters for my trade-ins till they got wise to my antics xD
I figure they have more, Unfortunately most decide to have one tiny shelf for retro stuff and normally put shit out that doesn't sell for months.
Well whatever stupid shit they're doing, I won't forgive game for ruining gamestation until I see a healthy selection of dreamcast games on the shelves, good dreamcast games, not 50 copies of ducati world
Went to the Hammersmith xelectrical today, got me some wireless megadrive controllers and the commodore 64 Robocop 2 cart (boxed) for a fiver. No dreamcast games though I had all of them
Kingston X electrical is where I picked up cannon fodder about 15 years ago! went in there a few years later, everything is priced up the bum. it's gone now
