This is a work in progress. Completed some work on my xenium ice box. I need to go get some white krylon paint I think I am going to skip the window cut out. I don't want to copy anybody else's idea. Thing's i am doing to it: -Custom white case with window cut out -Clear jewel with led lan/hd leds installed in blue and green(done)-used 2 3mm led/2 82 ohm resistor's -power/eject change to blue led(done)-used 2 3mm blue led's -control port's with blue leds(done)-used 4 5mm led's and 4 100 ohm resistor's -250 gb hd(done) -ram upgrade(ordered)this mobo has these from utsource-Samsung-K4D263238D-QC50 -lcd installed with spi adapter(ordered)-http://cheaplpc.com/xenlcd/default.asp and lcd I have in stock. Short video: http://youtu.be/6Ax8j8gFQiQ I meant to use 2 blue leds but one was accidently green in the bag of blue's I guess. It'd fine anyway for hd/lann activity led's under the jewel. Also the jewel came out a little foggy. I need to keep polishing it. I am still waiting on the ram and spi adapter for adding a lcd. I am going to paint it all white with clear jewel
Glad to see that chip getting put to some use! looking great so far, cant wait to see it after the paintjob. I'm almost wondering if the jewel would look almost better with a good frosted look rather than perfectly clear. Btw, the best stuff I've come across to give you a amazingly clear jewel is "Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish" That stuff is AMAZING on plastics!! Hmm I was going to post an Image but apparently it exceeds my Quota?? I guess I cant post pictures anymore?? http://i.imgur.com/dwqnDGo.jpg The jewel on the left was me using a light paint thinner to remove the green (never could get it nice and clear) The one on the right I used the Polish, It turned crystal clear. Takes a bit longer but is soo worth the effort. (yes I removed the silver too, but I meant to)
Thank's for the tip. I used brasso metal polish on it. But used OOPS first to get most of the paint off which i think made it foggy. I am going to get that mothers mad & aluminum. If it doesnt clear it up better I'll frost it or paint it white. I was thinking off frosting it since i think its kinda messed up already. polished it some more. Its looking better.
Lookin good! I wonder why I can't post any pictures :/ btw, what do you use to secure it to the xbox? I tried some clear silicon last time I did the clear jewel mod but it just pops off shortly after.
It's been a while since I did one. If i remember correctly I used very little hot glue(little dots on the edge). I tried super glue but had mixed result's. It actually melted the jewel a little a couple of times. Use a toothpick to apply the hot glue
You're meant to leave a short lip around the edge so the jewel sits on top, then glue around it. Also metal polish is a better solution for polishing the jewel, brasso can remove the lettering. Mod's and Thing's don't require a '. They don't own anything.
Brasso is metal polish. I think it work's good. But your right the lettering can easily come off if you get too much in the lettering. What other metal polish do you recommend? This jewel mod I did is different. I didn't cut out the center. I installed 2 leds under the jewel through the case. I used my soldering iron to make the 2 holes for the leds, then cut them clean with a razor blade. They are wired to hd and lann ground's with a 5v source from the psu. So they blink when hd or lann is active only. This idea was from litspiff from xboxscene. I give him full credit for it.
Afaik, it's more harmful stuff than say, car detailing metal polish. What I used. You hear about others using oven cleaner on the jewel and so on, but this is all harmful stuff. Heh I had a similar want to make a LED access jewel but I thought it'd be rather annoying after a while. How I was going to go about making the light jewel would be to make a negative and positive rail so the jewel is more bright with around 8 LEDs in a ring.
Yeah that does sound better. I'm gonna do what your suggesting. I'm gonna just solder to gnd instead if the lann/hd gnds. The constant blinking is annoying lol Thanks. I'll make a video when it's all done. Actually thinking of showing each step to completion. Also looking for some installation help on the lcd. Nevermind figured it out. http://www.character-lcd-lcds.shopeio.c ... Y6WFDY.jpg Points on the right are v+ and V-. So points K and A. 1-gnd, 3-contrast, 4-RS, 5-R/W(gnd), 6-Enable, 7-10 are not needed, 11-data4, 12-data5, 13-data6, 14- data7, 15-V- or K and 16- V+ or A which goes to 5v source Can anybody confirm that is correct before i do it? I am using this SPI2PAR adapter http://cheaplpc.com/xenlcd/install-other.asp I have this lcd I am going to use. eiko L201221J http://www.character-lcd-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/details.asp? id=434&cat=Lcds&sub=Character%20Lcd This is the pdf. Its on page 24 http://www.character-lcd-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/pdf/SeikoChar.pdf It has a 2x7 and 2 pads on the right side A and K Is anybody familiar with this type and what would be the best way to install it? I usually use a 1 x16 pinout so this has me slightly confused.
So tonight I fitted the lcd and did one coat of paint on the xbox case Pics: Also I got the ram in the mail. Still waiting on the spi adapter for the lcd install.
SPI2Par arrived today Now i can hook up the lcd screen. Short video of what it looks like without lcd screen working. Just a short video to show the progress. http://youtu.be/0NzsWXKZyfk with lights out but forgot to take the controller out for the full effect. http://youtu.be/66vm4drwoWk
Thanks. I am going to hook the lcd up tonight if I get a chance. Also I changed that green led under the jewel to blue so all leds are blue now. My Ice Xbox. Thanks again for the xenium ice.
It look's better in the pic then it actually is. Long story short. Ask the wife to get me some krylon fusion at michaels and she opted for krylon color master which still works good on plastic's. Basically I just sanded the whole case/parts and painted them with 3 coats. The next day i wet sanded it and repainted it with another coat. I didn't use a primer but next time I think I will. Edit: I tried installing the 2 x 20 lcd but it didnt work. So I used a 4 x 20 lcd i had that doesnt really fit. I guess Ill order another 2 x 20 and try again since i already cut the case to fit one. Just ordered this one. https://www.crystalfontz.com/product/CFAH2002ATMIJT Got this one for cost of 10 piece so $22 shipped The 4 x 20 one works fine but would be a bitch to install. i have th case all painted and cut out already for the 2 x 20 anyways
You certainly need to prime it, when I used vinyl dye it looked good from the first coat, but usually 2 or 3 would do it. It beats sanding the case, just it's more expensive. A tip with the buttons at the front, painting them never works in the long run, it comes off very easy
I am going to try the Vinyl dye. Yeah, the power/eject looks better the same color as the case though. I'll just be careful with it. Is this what your referring too? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...c-coating/_/N-25h9?itemIdentifier=645636_0_0_ Looks like I would have to start with another case. I can't paint over existing paint.
I can't look at the page right now, in maintenance however the vinyl dye I used was under the brand VHT. High quality stuff, just when using it, be careful how you apply it. It can instantly turn yellow, so constantly shake the can too.
