I've been having an issue with my DOL-101 with a Xeno GC 2.0. It seems to be incapable of reading any backups whatsoever, even though the chip is seemingly installed correctly. The POT is tweaked to a very reasonable 180. The cube is still capable of reading normal games just fine, but it can't read any backups (not on normal DVD-R media or 8 cm minis [using sony accucore discs]). The error chain itself goes something like this:

    1. console is turned on and the red LED appears, and shortly thereafter changes to yellow as it should
    2. disc is placed in, and the LED turns red as the laser begins to read the disc. It then changes back to yellow, the disc slows down, the LED turns red again. A DRE then appears the disc stops spinning entirely.
    3. The LED once again turns yellow.

So does anyone have any idea what the issue is here? Could it be a botched chip install entirely? Is it my choice of media? I'm really quite baffled. I can post pictures or a video if it would help at all.

    Maybe try different media.

I burnt a game on different DVDr discs and I was lucky to find the right brand that worked fine.

So I thought I was all set with a 50 pack of those discs, but I discovered that my full size XenoGC modded cube will only read burned discs from my NEC burner. So even if I use the working discs with a different burner I have, they wont work giving DRE or becoming unrecognized.

Also I had to pot tweak my cube but it did not work 100% fine with backups until I found the magic burner/disc-combo.

Yeah, I figured that the media could definitely be a possibility, as it is certainly a big determining factor on whether or not backups will read. I probably made a bad decision in buying my discs from Walmart. I'll have to try out some different combos. Do you have any disc recommendations from personal experience?

I had a similar issue with a xenogc I installed yesterday. After tweaking the pot from 190 to 180 it started to read the discs but stuttered. Tried 170 and still stuttering but not as bad. At 160 it's reading fine with no stuttering.

Yeah, that sounds about like mine. It stutters a few times and eventually just stops altogether resulting in a DRE.

You do have to adjust the pot. I still have yet to find the sweet spot, since this one game actually stutters, when others don't.

Yeah, I totally understand that. I've adjusted the pot many times, but it just never seems to work, and I get the same outcome every time. Does it have anything to do with the console revision being a 101? I think I've heard somewhere that 101's are worse about reading backups than the other revisions.

I had one similar. From the factory it was set to 110.

I've taken the pot all the way from 200 down to 30 in increments of ten and the cube just won't take it. Just stutters and stops and a DRE appears. The only thing I can think of is that it's my choice of media. I guess it has to be the burner/DVD combo.

Get a new laser and some full sized DVD-Rs for testing. Ritek minis are supposedly good.

Phillips mini dvd-r is good also. I think they're a bit better than ritek.

I've heard that as well. Just ordered a new laser and I'll pick up some Phillips minis in a day or two. Hopefully I can get this all sorted out.

Glad to hear it, just a friendly reminder when you install the new laser, make sure to set it to 220 then adjust again the way you did before :encouragement:

I keep my POT at 220 (the original POT was around 400) and get perfect reads on my Gamecube. I also use Ritek discs and burn at 4x speed. It seems that Gamecubes are tempermental with media.

i find with my gamecube is that anything above 6x burn speed i get errors and i quality scan every discs, i think it could be the write strategy mine doesnt like or how it ramps the speed up ie CAV, P-CAV

Thanks for all the help and input everybody. I'll update the thread whenever I've replaced the laser and tested the new discs.
