I'm trying to install a xeno GC modchip but whenever I turn the gamecube on I get a flashing red light and that's it
Don't suppose anybody knows what I've done wrong? everything seems okays far as I can tell

How have you opted to install? with or without wires?

If without wires, its pretty easy to not actually have a connection between the chip and the board. Its also easy to connect to 2 of the pads that are next to each other.

I used wires. I've triple checked every connection, tried to install it on two different drives, both give the same problem, there are no bridged connectors that I can see. Is it possible that there's something wrong with the chip? There's a wire, that when disconnected, stops the flashing and the LED just stays solid red

Possibly, but its more likely to be a wiring issue IMO.

I've tried it on three different drives now, I cracked open my own chipped gamecube, took the wires off one by one and wired them directly to exactly the same place on the new chip one by one and it still has this issue. Put my old one back and it works fine.

Think you have answered your own question then. Sounds like an issue with the chip

    Doesn't seem excessive.

Picture of the chip that isn't working? Could be a stray bit of solder messing things up. Red right implys its working, but not successfully injecting the payload - which could be a short (usually bad install, but seems you have ruled that out)

Here's the chip itself, sorry that picture before was the one that works. Is it just me or does it look a little bit bent out of shape?

Just double check inside the solder holes that theres no metal parts shorting between 2 connections. The xenos often have little bits of metal in the holes from when they were made.

And cant really tell from the pic, its pretty low quality. But do you mean that it doesnt sit flat?

I can't see any little bits of metal, I cleared a couple of those out before I started

and yes that's right it doesn't sit flat

Last thing id try - add some solder to the connections of the chip (the actual black IC on the modchip) to confirm they have not come away from the board (technically making it so a connection isnt connected)

did you check the traces o the chip? I had a similar problem with my Xeno, turn out one of my traces was scratched.

Where did you get the chip from? Could be a dud/fake??

Pretty sure its from me (someone else ordered, sent to the OP to install). Sold hundreds, not had any faulty yet. But these things do happen, nothing is 100% from DOA

Hi, i need info abou second version XenoGC 2.0 with has Red LED for bad installation and Orange LED for Good installation.
I have installeed it. but Orange LED blinking - not unpaused light but blinking, is this OK ?
Gamecube still not read 8cm DVD-R, but may be it is laser. I try little add power to laser with trimmer, than DVD is registered by GC, but all time give me ERROR - Shut down your GameCube and read manual for instruction.
What this mean, it is bad Xeno installation or laser poblem or anythin else ?

If it ID's the DVDR, its not the chip.

I solve my problem. Orange LED must shine continously. I have one of contacts connected in short circuit, first left up was conected with one on his right side - under XenoGC PCB so i not see that.

I re-solder all contacts on wires and now it is working and Orange controll LED shine continuously !

DVD-RW still not working, but that is laser problem, DVD-R working OK...
