    Hi All,

I modded my PAL GC last night with a Xeno modchip. Installation went ok but all I get is solid orange light (it doesn't change colour)

It boots original games but not backups.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like some of the connections are not fully connected. Basically thats a status light to tell you when the drive has been patched. Missing connection = unable to patch = no change of light.

    tried a wire install?

If you are doing it wireless, there is no real way for you to check the connections (as the solder usually ends up filling the hole, so you cant see the connection to test it) - other than the LED check, which implies its not connected.

Depends what firmware/chip version you have. Mine (v1.05) is red for a couple of seconds when it starts up, then solid orange after that - all functions exactly as it should though.

It doesnt matter what colour the leds are, he said it doesnt change colour. They could be pink and blue, but if they are not changing from power up - its not working.

That's good to know, but one of solder pads on the Xeno has come of also, so there is nothing to solder to :-/

Follow the traces and solder directly to the chip.

could simply have been the media you were using. My xeno shows the solid orange light, and wouldn't work with any full sized dvd-rs that i tested but some philips mini dvd-r booted right up on the console. May just want to try different media. Although now it sounds kind of butchered....yet still fixable :)

Solid orange depends on revision. The key here is that its not changing from 1 colour to another, not what the colour actually is.

The one that's come away from the chip looks like it has no traces (bit weird I know)

if I could solder directly to the chip & then to the other points on the board that would be great, has anyone got a diagram for that?

Lesson learned here folks, use wires lol

It'll change color when the drive is successfully patched, not when the game is successfully booted. The laser could be as useful as a fork when it comes to reading discs but the chip will still change which LED is on.

I actually meant that on boot of the console the LED turns and stays orange. It's a revision 2 XenoGC though so that's accurate. As for the reason of the disks not booting I'm sure it probably is something to do with the laser but that wasn't exactly what I meant originally. You are right though
