Here's my PS collection. It's still growing (I'd like more green debuggers especially) but I think it's not too shabby anymore.

Btw. contrary to popular belief Yarozes show the disc's SCEx code only when they're from the Yaroze's "home" region. So, DTL-H3002 shows SCEE for PAL discs, but acts just like a debugger (shows no code) for NTSC-U/C and NTSC-J discs. My guess is that the machine's firmware accepts only "SCEE" and " " (four spaces) as valid bootcodes so the CD controller has been programmed to return four spaces for imports.

Very nice indeed - being a Sony collector I am impressed, especially by the boxed unit. I'd LOVE a green Debug PSx. The only one I have ever been offered was in very poor condition and I declined. Had the case been fine I'd have taken it, but it was cracked and chipped. No use!

Heh, my green debugger also happens to have a quite unsightly scratch on the CD cover (see this pic). I wonder if I could get paint which would be exactly the same tone of green from somewhere. :) It also doesn't play PAL games for some reason. The picture completely blacks out if software switches the unit to 50Hz mode (sound can still be heard). I tested this both with games and my Xplorer FX cart. It isn't only the sync which is broken either. My Commodore 1081 doesn't show anything and it doesn't care about proper sync unlike modern TVs. Kinda weird, dunno if this is just how green debuggers are made or if the unit is partially broken.

The blue debuggers can be had for quite cheap so just go ahead and buy one. ;-) My DTL-H1001 cost me only 70 USD with international shipping. I admit to paying a completely silly price (about 100 GBP) for my DTL-H1102 though it is externally very clean and seems to be unopened (the warranty sticker is intact). Just a week or so ago another DTL-H1102 went for under 20 GBP on eBay! I was going to bid on it too but missed my snipe. :-(

By the way, is the external 12V PSU included in the HDD kit for PS2 TOOL compatible with the DTL-H110x series debuggers? I can't find a suitable PSU and am thinking about buying the TOOL HDD kit on eBay for its PSU if it is compatible. So far I've only quickly tested my DTL-H1102 by directly connecting the wires from a 12V DC PSU to the debugger's DC connector without a plug in between. Yeah, I know I could just swap in a regular internal AC PSU from another PSX but I don't really want to.

Nice collection, xttl! (Especially, the DTL-H30102 - do let me know, if you ever decide to part company with that! :) )

I also noticed that the DTL-H30002 has the horizontal stand - first one of those I've seen outside of Japan.

As for the external TOOL HDD 12v supply, can't confirm directly, as I don't have a PS1 debug to compare with, but provided the debug is rated <= 1.5A & the supply uses the same size positive inner pin plug that the HDD supply has, then my guess is that it ought to be ok.

The bios doesn't check what comes back from the cd controller, only that it says it's valid. At least one of the asian consoles runs the american bios but japanese games. All the debugs/yaroze run exactly the same bios as consoles of the same era.

Most debugs are battered and scratched, it adds to the history. They were abused after all.

None of the green debugs will switch refresh rates, I thought it actually locked them up. I had to change the default on my xplorer before I could get it to do anything.

I'm in the uk, let me know how much you'd pay for a real one.

Yeah, I knew the BIOS was the same as in regular retail consoles but didn't know that it doesn't care what the CD controller returns. I was just extrapolating from the fact(?) that all debug CD controllers always return four spaces. I wonder why the Yaroze is like that then, would be neater if it always showed the disc's code.

I thought so too until I tried xplorer's menu which lets you rapidly switch between 50 and 60 Hz. I almost wonder if they used early 2nd rev GPUs for the green debugs which had this bug which causes them to black out in the wrong video mode...

Well, the rest of Europe uses a different plug than the one used in UK so if the PSU is of the "wall wart" type then it's useless to me. However if the AC plug is on the end of a cable I can probably change it.

I bought it from UK on eBay a while ago. Thought it was silly enough of an accessory that I must have it in my collection. :) Unsurprisingly postage to Finland cost more than the item itself.

Regarding the PSU, see a pic of the debugger's connector here: http://koti.phnet.fi/~vv/dc12v.jpg. As for amperage, I have no idea since the sticker on the bottom just says "DC 12 V". Someone with the official PSU would have to check how much it's rated for.

Btw. I typed all the quotes by hand since my mobile phone's browser sucks (no way to select text and copy+paste) so sorry to the original posters if I made any typos.

    1. It's quite easy to get a uk 3 prong to euro convertor, I take one with me on holiday.

    2. the power supply takes a standard playstation figure of 8 cable & is rated at 110-240 volts.

a few years ago I also seen a official US horizontal stand for 8$! So they are probally common, but also pretty useless. Thats the reason you don't see them so mucht.
