While I have another personal proxy in japan, GP your services will be missed. =(
(heck now that the watches have returned I do actively check the emails every day).

    Haha --
There's a few kinks to work out which I will when my life settles down, but for now it should help you get some hits.

I have used mailorderjapan starting way back in 2008 and have successfully closed 13 invoices with them so far (fairly large shipments with each).

I'm very concerned about condition of the stuff I buy and they handle the items better than I would tbh. They bubble wrap individual items carefully and make sure they aren't stacked in a way that could cause crushing during shipment (particularly nice for games that come in cardboard cartons) and send in thick cardboard boxes that match the size of the contents with near precision. Once they even shipped one lot in two separate boxes because one of the items I bought was very fragile and a flat rectangular shape dimensions were like 2 inch x 3.5 feet x 3.5 feet). I suppose you might consider that good or bad - the cost of shipping is likely higher but the condition the games arrive in is much better.

I have not done much fee comparison or tried many other proxies because I know what to expect from MOJ and one bad experience with any other proxy would be too many imo... especially when the kind of stuff I want comes around infrequently and any damage would extend beyond just the financial aspect considering the time I spend looking for this stuff.

Only other time I tried another proxy was when I forgot to place a deposit and couldn't get ahold of them within the 12 hrs before an auction. I forget the name of the proxy I went with to get the bid placed in the short notice but they charged a ton of hidden fees (basically extorted me to get my package) and the experience was downright miserable :(

I've missed it since day one. But I'm glad that it shut down for the right reasons. Family comes first after all.

    Yeah. Cheers, guys.

I have a friend that's interested in taking up the reigns. We're working out how it might work. I'd say it's 50/50 at this point.

I sure hope it works out! Thus far I have been very unimpressed with the alternatives I've seen.

What would you expect from a site that doesn't benefit from the aura of a Tobias Funke avatar?

I can also vouch for Mail Order Japan, I closed a few invoices with them in the past and as Paperweight said, they do take care to package everything separately in Bubble Wrap. I've ordered all kinds of items and games of varying sizes from something about the size of a kids McDonalds happy meal plastic toy: A replica of a red Twin Famicom that happens to be the same model I have, to consoles such as the PC-Engine Duo RX, and computers such as a MSX Turbo R, and two PC-98 models and they've only ever messed up on one item, a FM-Pac cartridge which they refunded me the money for.

I'm not so sure that Mail Order Japan is the cheapest, but I don't think they are the highest price either. They do have pretty decent communication and over SEA/SAL shipping which cuts the cost of shipping enormously if you don't mind the wait.

I got into a bit of trouble with well... overspending on Yahoo Japan and so I don't really do it anymore, but as of lately there have been a few items I'm still interested in getting. There is one item that I'd defintiely like to get, but as it is only one item about the size of 2 kilograms or less, it's looking like it would cost me quite a bit after proxy fees, bank transfer fees, paypal fees, et cetera.

What would you all say would be the cheapest and a good reliable service just for ordering say 1-2 smaller sized items max? Communication would be important for me though since I'd want the item to be mailed locally to the prefecture of Chiba where my wife's family lives to save on shipping costs a bit. Then they can just bring it with them the next time they visit the U.S.

GaijinPunch, I had only heard about your service in name, but it's a shame I did not know about your services earlier being inexpensive and reliable or I would definitely have wanted to try using your proxy services. : )
