Sure, "Built" is a harsh word (Had to have someone else do a few things to it), but it is up and running! I would like to thank everyone that gave information in the last few months. However, a new problem has come up. While the computer is fairly fast, scrolling through text is extremely slow. Is this a sign that I need more RAM, or do I need to adjust my settings?
meh, long time ago i touched windows, but my partition died. anyway, i'm sure that if you go ''my computer'' and then click on the ''control panel'', if you browse the folder enough, use your judgement and pratice the trial-error thing, you'll finally solve your problem. i can't help you more, sadly. Try searching fro something that looks like ''smooth scrolling'' and speed of the scroll or something in this branch. maybe if you low your resolution, too. by the way, what are your specs (esp. the ram)?
Hrmm... if are you just browsing through a text file? Or web page? Or Acrobat file? Here are some things to try: 1.) Do a Windows Update. Make sure you have all of the latest patches. Might just be some weird conflict/glitch/bug. This helps with general issues. 2.) Right click on your desktop. Click on Properties -> Settings Tab-> Advanced Button -> Troubleshoot Tab. Now make sure that "Hardware Acceleration" is set to FULL if it isn't already. If it IS set to full you can try setting it to a lower value, though I've never needed to. This helps with basic video problems. 3.) Grab the latest video drivers. If it is a GeForce card, grab the official nVidia drivers instead of any ones that came with the card. The official ones are more streamlined and take up less memory. 4.) Right click on "My Computer". Click on Properties -> Advanced -> Settings under the Perfomance box -> Advanced. Make sure both option options are set to "Programs". If you're feeling really daring you can go to "Change" under Virtual Memory. Set it to "Custom" and set BOTH the Min and Max to a large number, more than 1000 (4096 is the max though that equates to 4 gigs of HD space being used up.) if you have the hard drive space. This will help while playing extremely memory intensive games. 5.) For more tweaks check out www.blackviper.com (mirrored @ http://dhost.info/kyeu/mirror/blackviper/WinXP/registry.htm) for some really good tweaks. Hopefully you'll find some of that information useful.
There's an option for smooth scrolling in Windows - I don't know if it's on by default in XP or what, and can't remember where it is - in Win2k it's in Display Properites -> Effects. I think it's somewhere like that in XP too, but not the exact same place.
My XP is in Spanish, but I'll give you the rough idea of where this option is. Control Panel > Mouse > "Wheel" tab > Number of lines / scroll one screen. It sounds weird that it's that slow, though. But tweaking that option, I think, will help. Otherwise, did the mouse come with special drivers of some sort...?
I finally figured out what I did wrong. I forgot to install a Nvidia driver, which caused the computer to go slower. Now that I installed it, everything has been going just fine! thanks for all your help, guys!
