I once bought an RGB-modded PCE Duo-R from doujindance on ebay. The mod is seemingly of very high accuracy and very tidy when I opened the console to look at it. Shortly after the purchase I noticed a slight yellow tint that vanished after a minute or so, I didn't worry about it. Then I boxed it up for 1.5 years until today and now the picture has quite a yellow tint The other colors are still vibrant, but anything that's supposed to be white is now in light yellow. Nothing changes if I move the cable around or anything, and the monitor isn't the problem as all my other RGB devices look fine on it. What can cause the problem? A loose solder joint? In the cable or the console? Unfortunately, I don't have another cable to test it.
I'll venture a complete guess in that when you originally got the system the mod had a cap (or two) that only performed its job properly when it fully "warmed up". Now the thing has dried up a bit more and never gets to that "warmed up" state. Not sure why it'd show up as yellow without knowing what circuit is being used.
@ave: Sounds like you need to recap the machine as APE pointed out. Kind of sucks as I thought generally DUO-R's didn't need that kind of work done. Off-topic a bit: How are you running the RGB to your north American TV set/monitor? Given we both live in Canada, I take it your using some kind of scart-to-YUV converter?
No, I run it on a German RGB monitor (using a step-up convertor). I contacted doujindance on ebay for some help, I'll see if that'll be successful.
There's always been that warmup yellow tint of all of his rgb mods, after a while warmup doesn't help, there is nothing wrong with the DUO in itself, a switch to another amp design will fix this right away.
FiddeSE: Can you elaborate a little on what a 'switch to another amp design' involves? I still have this problem, although it only seems to happen a few minutes after switching on the console.
I would be interested to hear as well! I was unaware that Doujindance had issues with the mods he performs.
Like this: http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?59384-PC-Engine-TG16-RGB-amplifiers I can't be 100% sure what he uses for an amp without a picture of it but I think he uses transistors.
@ave: Did doujindance actually reply to you? Did he give you any hints as to if this is a flaw in his design, or if it's just a defect in your unit?
I have not messed with a system from Doujindance so I am unaware of what he does for RGB amps. But the RGB amps from Mickcris like the ones mentioned in APE's link are by far the best amps for the PCEngine consoles. They have the best color accuracy of any amps currently available.
