Yeah, the Zodiac has been floating about on the edges of the gaming world for a while, but apparently as of this E3 it is going to become publicly avaiable, and might be worth a definate look (if the price comes down from $399, that is... :smt009 ) Besides, the temptation of an excellently done Doom II port is too much for me. :smt040 Press Release: http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20040511005762&newsLang=en
Not just Doom, mind you, but apparently there's some grade-A stuff in the works. Sega is onboard providing arcade ports of Golden Axe and Altered Beast, and I have heard some rumors (and even seen an announcement on Tapwave's old side) that there would be a Neverwinter Nights port to the system. Plus it runs Palm OS, so there's a ton of both useful programs already out there. And I love the way the joystick looks - in my opinion, the Neo Geo Pocket had it right with the joystick and I'd like to see more handhelds copy that design. I mean, there's only so much you can do easily with the D-pad. So assuming the price drops a bit, I'm sure I'd be a happy Tapwave customer.
It may be 6 months old but the fun stuff is only just starting, the emulation on it is just picking up, game support has all but died already:lol: A bud on another forum showed some vids of a 3d racing game and the touch screen ability, it all looked pretty good I must say.
Well, I doubt that any of the newly announced systems would have any problems running Doom II... I remember playing it on a 386DX40, well nowadays handhelds (not only the Zodiac) got way more juice than that :smt024 That is, if it comes out :smt009
Yeah, the thing with the Tapwave Zodiac is that it's been around for a year or so, but it has only been available from Tapwave's website for the rather steep prices of $399 and $299 (In what I think are 64 and 32mb versions) with really no Tapwave specific software available yet, so it was essentially an expensive Palm with a joystick. Now, the Zodiac will be available at retail outlets (at least in the US) like Circuit City, and there will be Zodiac-specific software released along with it. I'm just hoping for a price drop, as my poor Palm IIIc is well used and more than a little confused - I keep getting a 'Q' when I write 'S'.. :smt017
its a very interesting console....guess it will be our gp32 in america :smt040 someone know the specs of the machine? maybe on the site...but i search and doen't found anything about that....
