We should be talking about these things. Of course things will get out of line but closing the topic won't make it go away. Another one will take its place. I like how I hear opinions on my country from people who never lived here, just like how they like to hear about their country from someone who never visited there. Its a great way to connect and understand each other. There will be idiots and assholes but thats where a mod comes in and edits/deletes their post rather than closing the whole topic and say something like "please rephrase that into a respectable post".

I'm with madhatter....I don't mind hearing an opinion (no matter how much I disagree) as I'm sure others don't mind hearing mine....nothing good ever came from silence...the world changes because of the flow of thought and idea....

btw...this is the off topic area isn't it?

  3. The point is that the entire topic of politics isn't remotely related to what the board was formed for, which you can see up top left as "Dedicated to rare, prototype, and developer's video game systems." Granted, we do have an offtopic area for discussions, jokes, etc. not pertaining to gaming, however, the one topic that never fails to offend, anger, and in general cause bad feeling on the board is politics, and I believe that in the interest of keeping things civil, Silverbolt, myself, and others have not been in the wrong in locking these threads. You want to hash out politics, EzBoards is free, or you could surely find any other message board on the internet where these things would be welcome.

Now if people were to be completely civil, and everyone truely knew the facts behind the things they hear/read, and nobody took offense at any opinions, then it might be something we could do here, but that really doesn't happen, and as such, there's no place for it here.

I'm sorry about closing the topic but i just had to close it.
Every time we get one of those topics it always ends up people attacking eachother

We have had enough of these kinds of topics this forum has been relaxed up till the political threads started and it's starting to get hostile and unfriendly.

The offtopic forum was made for some friendly, funny non game related discussions like it says in the discription:

Fast cars, hot women , good music and everything else. be sure to introduce yourself.

So please keep political discussion to yourself or go have them on another board i'd like to keep thing nutral and civilized if possible.

I think everyone knows I try to be civil and get along with everyone so don't take this wrong....Assembler has engaged in these political discussions in the past...I don't see how if the owner of the board can discuss these things (as has almost everyone here) how it should be discontinued....we all love games, thats a given...we all get along...we all have different viewpoints...I don't think that would stop me, idrepublix, silverbolt, GreatSt, Maddhatter and everyone else with differing views from having a great time sitting down together for a brew...heated discussions aren't evil....I've seen sega vs nintendo vs sony vs microsoft discussions get every bit as heated....true I don't want to see these topics in General, Marketplace or any of the other topic areas....Off topic is what it is...it's inevitable...it will obviously continue to happen and I don't see a problem with it...I wouldn't be interested in a Crack smoking thread, so you know what....I prob wouldn't participate in it....Everyone skims threads and decides what they're interested in responding to and what they're not...no ones holding a gun to anyones head and making them read or respond...we're all adults and we'll get through it just fine..

A heated videogame discussion isnt as boring as a heated poilitical discussion, though. I know its in off topic but a few members take it too far.

exactly why I said...if it doesn't interest someone...it doesn't concern or affect that person...those that don't care just don't read or post in that thread. There are tons of threads that would bore me and not interest me...thats why I don't read and respond..easy enough. :smt023

To be honest, I don't understand why the thread was closed. I hope it wasn't due to my comment, but either way the conversation was civil and nobody was "flaming" anybody else. There were no personal insults.

If off-topic is meant to be non-political in all respects, please state that in the rules somewhere.

After discussing the situation with some of the mods i've decided to re-open the topic.
But i'm asking everyone to keep it friendly and civilized and use solid arguments instead of mud slinging.

If things still keep going out of hand post will just be edited or deleted for topics sake.

Thanks for listening to the members to the mods....we're glad not to have a tyranny...this board is great because of the fact we can have a heated off topic discussion and then turn around and revel in some new gaming discovery and be as friendly as if we all share the same view...good job guys. :smt023

indeed to all here because this is the best message board i have ever experienced and i hope it will stay that way and i will do my best to make it the best message board

and if i say anything bad about USA i also say bad things about Denmark because sometimes Denmark is the puppy/canary bird of USA (not the people but the politicians)

because after ww2 churchill called us Hitlers little canary bird and if it was not because of the freedom fighters in DK we would have been a part of Russia and not a member of UN and NATO

and by the way one of the best depeche mode bootleg remixers are an american(DJK8T) and she is P-R-E-double T-Y so i have nothing against the american people

i love you guys and gals :)
