With such series such as fighter maker and RPG maker, When are we going to see an FPS maker (For a console)? Yeah, I know some of today's console FPSs have map editors and such, but I would like to see a full-blown FPS maker with a large library of guns and vehicles with customizable options, such as rate of fire, projectile launched, adjustable skins. Imagine a minigun that shot lazer beams at a mech or other type of imaginative vehicle and blows it up. Could it be possible to make an indoor map and save it as an object, and then make an outdoor map, like in Pariah, and place your base/fortress in it? Without a campaign mode, it could save a lot of space for limitations on the cd, and could allow for bigger environments and more objects to set down. Shit, a weapon editor and a vehicle editor would kick ass as well. Start with nothing and select predeigned pieces and put them together. I did some research on this at some FPS maker site (With PS1 graphics, BTW :ayashi ) and they had some cool ideas, some funny ones, and some bizarre ones. I saw a race car with mech legs for christs sake! But anyhoo, they fixed the vehicles to have weapons and such and rate of fire, type of fire...etc. I think a skin editor for the player or A.I.s would kick ass as well, but it wouldnt be too creative being a console game. Unless someone could make a feature of importing computer data to a console game. I dont know if its possible, since I never really tried it, nor am I really in to PC gaming. My vision is a full-out battlefield like blood gulch in Halo, but bigger with bases strung throughout with mechs, tanks, and other turreted vehicles fighting infantry who are equipped with machine guns, lazer-miniguns, and high powered H.E.A.T. rockets, and blowing them up as well, while airplanes and spaceships have dogfights in the skies, and also getting shot down but anti-air lazer turrets. IF such a game ever comes out to a console, preferably Xbox, it would also need ONLINE capabilities. The slogan could be "Make your world...and then blow it up." I think I covered all the basics and then some for a good FPS maker. What do you guys think it should include? Or does mine sound too crazy to ever be true, already?
I remember one time a friend of mine and I were going to make a mod for Half-Life/Counter-Strike where it was the Keebler Elves vs. the M&M candies. They'd be all battle hardened and dressed up in militia garb. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
from the first time i heard the xbox had a harddrive i had hoped for user created levels...even though there are games out there that have map creaters none of them give you much freedom. it would be nice if an fps came bundled with software that would allow you to use a proper editor. then you combine that feature with what you are talking about above that would be pretty cool. i dont know if anyone has played Tread Marks, but it has a cool weapons scripting? system that allows you to create your own weapons...i remember i made heat seeking bunny rabbits.
Are you talking about the PC game that was originally an indie game? If so, yes! That was a pretty cool game. Never messed with the weapons scripting though.
the problem with an fps maker is that every fps would fell the same. what makes an fps what it is is for the most of time it's engine. Perfect Dark didn't used the same weapons, graphics, sounds, animations maps and characters as goldeneye, but it felt very similar to it anyway, because it used the same engine. If there's some Fps maker out there, i hope they're complete and fully customizable, because it would be sad to see thousands and thousands of projects feeling all the same. ....did i said feeling?
Oh yeah, the pc FPS maker I found also had the sound used for the gun shot for the gun as well. You could import your own sounds to make your gun sound like an automatic fart if you wanted to. :smt042 I know a lot of FPSs feel the same, but different sounds can make all the difference, sometimes. Having melee weapons like swords a la Halo would be a nice touch as well. It would rock if Halo 3 had some sort of editor in it besides characters. Im not talking weapon making or anything, but level editing would be great. A good FPS maker would have: 1. A weapon making system where you construct them with premade pieces Barrel, Handle, and color system with a lotta premade pieces, lotsa sounds for gunfire noise, and type of Projectile launched (Perhaps several types of rockets, bullets, etc. to keep them all from being the same. Actually, customising this to the point of insanity could happen. You really could make some cool imaginative weapons, but it all depends on the amount of content in the editor. I suppose downloadable content would be a must for this type of game. Point distribution system for power, range, and rate of fire. 2. A vehicle making system similar to that of the weapon making system. Having pieces for land vehicles (Mechs, Cars, Jeeps, Tanks, Lazer Turrets of DOOM) Having pieces for air vehicles (Planes, Spaceships, helicopters) I dunno about sea warfare Same point distribution but scratch range for HP of vehicle before it goes "boom boom" 3. OUTDOOR MAP EDITOR/ INDOOR MAP EDITOR Maybe you can make a base or vehicle and save it as an object, and then make the battlefield. I think a base maker would be a new touch as well, but this game idea is crazy enough as it is. And have a sky and terraforming editor similar to Pariahs but bigger and better without PS2 water effects. A night map with snipers while raining kinda stuff could be made with it. 4. Character maker Same ol' same ol' lotsa pieces, color schemes, point distribution for Accuracy, Strength, speed, and defense. I think that about covers it. What does everyone else think?
Go to the Gamecreators website, if you haven't already. I keep seeing things about a FPS maker. www.darkbasic.com (it will redirect you to their main page, since I don't know it)
yah, the game rocks. it won top prize at the independent games festival a couple years ago. the guy who created it, seumas mcnally, died right after recieving the award. after his death his family worked pretty hard to finish the game and get it published. what really sucks is that tread marks was going to be ported over to the ps2 and xbox. but the company the family were working with, tantulus, screwed them over. tantulus scraped their plans for tread marks and is now making this tread marks rip-off called metal-shell. its basiclly everything that treadmarks is and was going to be. piss's me off.
http://www.fpscreator.com/ Hey Taemos, that link was where I was, and This site is linked there. This is the PC version, but I wanna console version, because it would be simpler, could utilize Xbox live. I dont think this version has vehicles in it, but I could be wrong.
I used to have an old DOS program from a company called Pie in the Sky that was like the Doom engine. Problem was I could never get the memory confiugred right so I couldn't make a game with more than five objects in it. Pretty sure the same company is still around, with something comprable to the Quake III engine (dated, but flexible for non programers.)
