Just joking, revolution's power supply isnt huge, but it still merits a check. Well, you already saw it... you just didnt know it was it. http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/photos/New_ways_to_play_7.jpg
Well, when you consider that front slot is the size of a DVD and that the base/psu has a downward slant, not big at all.
what if you want to put it on its side to slip it under a TV stand or something? while vertical consoles look nice, its not always pratical
I don't think this power supply design would stand in the way of that. I haven't seen the Xbox360's power supply, how's it compare to the Colecovision's monster of a brick? I'd hate to see my darling Coleco lose that honor. ...word is bondage...
Considering how tiny the Revo will be, a DVD plus a couple of inches at most, I don't think you'll have any trouble putting it somewhere on your entertainment center. Put it next to your amp or something. Making the stand the power supply is very sexy. No more dangling power supplies behind the old desk!
Next to the 360's power supply, the Colecovision one unfortunately loses the honor of being the biggest video game power supply. Still has nothing on my Amiga's power supply though... now that's a brick!
Then there's also the Commodore 64 power supply. Even now it's gigantic compared to many, but for a 9 year old back when I used it everyday... dayum! About this revolution thing, it actually comes as no surprise, seeing as how the N64 power supply was connected behind the console. This Revo one is a similar concept. I don't own a GameCube so I don't know about that power supply, though. I sort of remember it's external, like PSTwo, right?
The 360 power supply is the size of two stacked soda cans. It has terrible ventilation holes, only at opposing ends. If it has two fans inside like the proto, it's a recall waiting to happen. I assume all problems inthe future will be with the psu.
game cube's power supply is placed in the middle of the power cord, just like the 360. It's just not as big as 360's. As for the revo power supply, i think its great. Talk about great and practical design! As for rumors surounding it, (because you know, every thing revealed on the revolution brings more rumors with it) they say its not really a power supply, but more like a battery pack, where you could use your revolution everywhere. This is connected with another infamous revolution rumor where the console could run with or without a tv. Second option would be with some kind of projector rolleyes inside the revolution, hence the angle of the console when placed vertically. Revolution would be, as the rumors told, a completly independant, wireless, system (if you use both options). Still interesting.
This might be why nintendo doesnt want to say a firm 200 yet, but with a projector wouldn;t be hassale if the bulb burnt out? Also i just thought about it, but is it going to be a pain placing its motion sensor?
The old Atari computers had huge adapters too. I believe the 5200 did as well. The biggest one I have is for the Philips portable CD-I 220, rendering it...unportable!
Well Nintendo speaks... The newly-launched Nintendo Official Magazine dropped the bombshell that the Revolution’s stand was not a stand. Oh no, it was in fact a power brick. This apparently is false. Nintendo of Europe told gaming site Spong, “We have not announced or shown any details regarding the power supply for the console. The stand is just a stand, nothing more, nothing less.†So, how did this blunder slip back fact-check and into the print mag? NoE chalks it up to a “production error.†That’s one big production error.
