My current gaming guilty pleasure is the Naruto series on ps 3 and psp which is done by C2 distributed by Namco. I'm not a huge fan of the series itself but I love how beautifully done the graphics are, as if I'm playing through the anime. Anyone else love these types of cell shaded animated games? I remember playing Jet Set Radio and am just amazed how far the programming has come to make these games look like playable cartoons.
Jet set radio or wind waker....erm....100% jet set radio no ...wait.....wind waker no...argh :banghead:
Definitely. How you will like the game depends on how you are able to like... humm... different...things. It is an experience like anything else. I loved it. [edit] I think that Wind Waker was amazing cel-shading wise.
I LOVE Cel shading. I could list Cel-Shaded games I like for pages... but I'll start with my favourite game ever, which is Breath of Fire V. That game is a work of art. That being said, I could also list Dragon Quest VIII (which was also awesome), No More Heroes, Tales of Vesperia, Jet Set Radio, Viewtiful Joe, Eternal Sonata (which wasn't so awesome, but looks beautiful)
Probably Wind Waker. I can't think of very many other games I have that are Cel-Shaded, except Wild Arms 3...
I never understood why people liked cel-shading. I always thought it looked cheap and lazy. Very ugly.
Wild Arms 3 was a REALLY good game. I enjoyed it a lot - and I'm really a fan of the anime-like Intro/Ending thing. The Cel-Shading on it was a bit ugly, though. I like Cel Shading because it makes things look a bit more 2D. I'd actually prefer 2D on most of my games, but I like the advantages that 3D gameplay offers. We've come to an age where 3D actually looks good, even as good as the artwork it represents in many cases. Back then, I found it blocky and plasticky - and Cel-Shading made things seem more familiar and colourful. I mean, there's awesome regular-shaded 3D games from the time (Metal Gear Solid 2, for example) - but I like REALLY colourful stuff. (Yeah, most of the brown-grey "next-gen" has made me quite sad). I have a bit of visual difficulties, so very distinct shades and high contrast, also, very defined contours do help me see a lot better. This may also be a factor. 2.5D Cel Shaded games would seem like a waste, though. Why not just use really good sprites? Another thought: Does ZOE2 count as Cel-Shaded? There was special shading on that one that made it look cartoonish, but also very 3D. Man, I loved that game too.
JET SET RADIO!!!! and Future, with a bit of Wind waker... the graphics are pleasant to the eye's I think.
Jet Set Radio because it was the original and still looks F*ing good even now! Followed by Killer 7 Game Cube. Yakumo
