I think there are far more things that should worry you about kotaku then that. I really dislike the site for acting like some random kids blog yet try to pass it off as a serious site. They gladly scoop up BS stories with out fact checking them. They've seriously made some bone head post like for example the one over the release date for the 3ds (Nin clearly said they will release it before end of March 2011, this gets reported for days, few days later kotaku runs a new article like they've magically figured out the 3DS will release sometime between now & march of 2011 like nobody figured this out yet).
After the whole Doom thing, now kotaku seem to like fake stories: Faked Gran Turismo 5 video on Kotaku? Earlier today, the popular game blog, Kotaku, ruffled the feathers of racing fans anticipating Sony’s launch of the latest iteration of the best selling racing simulation Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3 console. The video appears to show exorbitantly long load times while the game loads a specific track. Kotaku titled the video “Video Shows Gran Turismo 5 Has Painfully Slow Load Times” and goes on to comment “With a couple months left and GT developer Polyphony Digital still hard at work, there is hope that these horribly long load times can be significantly reduced. ” However, eagle eyed visitors to the site have noticed a few peculiarities in the video. The most obvious is the slo-mo speeds that reflections of visitors at the event appear to be moving at during certain points in the video. The second is previous footage of the same level loading that show a dramatic difference in loading time – approximately 25 seconds compared to load times in excess of one minute shown in the video on Kotaku’s site. Is Kotaku posting doctored video of the long awaited racing title in an attempt to create negative buzz prior to the games eminent release? Compare the two videos and discuss. Videos on the link: http://www.smgamers.com/?p=2080 Kotaku's answer? Update the "news" with this http://kotaku.com/5608849/video-shows-gran-turismo-5-has-painfully-slow-load-times "Update: Some readers have pointed out that this video may be slowed to give the appearance of longer load times. Make of it what you will!" Idiots... Got rid of them from my bookmarks. PS: Loved the comments, with people making fun of them.
What's the appeal of the neogaf site? I went to the main board and it says that 3700+ users (registered & anonymous) are browsing the site. That's a lot of message board users. The forum discussions don't seem that interesting to me. There were some other comments in this thread regarding the suckiness of the racketboy site but I actually like it quite a bit. It has a good group of regular members with mostly intelligent discussions. I do enjoy the Together Retro monthly piece where folks try to play a particular game and discuss the gameplay. Other message boards that I enjoy are: atariage.com, sega-16.com, nintendoage.com, & gc-forever.com.
Uggg. Shitaku is at it again. If you're looking for serious conversation or deep insight then neogaf is not the place. The place is full of as much tards as any other place. Probably worse is they are smug about it since it's easy to get banned and they are slow to let new people in. But looking for a good selection of news quickly, its a good place to go as they're quick to post new news from many places all over the web with out having to flip through multiple sites. As well some of their game launch topics post out some things worth reading.
Irresponsible "journalism" is what is making the games industry just a little less tasteful. Well, it works with Hollywood....
kotaku is all about the money, nuff said... Gawker, the owners, had much better blogs in the past yet those got canned because they couldn't bring the kind of money kotaku does. Tabloids are cheaper to make and easier to sell, thats why they grow by the minute. Slow is almost a compliment, I would use "glacial" instead
