So Gamester81 just posted a video showing what it's like to be a reseller including footage of them purchasing games etc. Take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDpcvFpjJFU Usually I would just post this in a youtube thread but this video is the first time I've seen a reseller in action purchasing hordes of games. Its a pretty maddening video especially the part where he wins a raffle of a rare game just to resell it. There's so much to say on this video (and that gamester81 seems fine with this guy) but I'm wondering what you all think of resellers and the video also.
I dunno, on one hand they make it easier for collectors, on the other, I'd pay more than $10 for a fat PS3, I just don't have the cash to buy 67 systems, nor do I need them.
Nahhhh Pat has a MUCH better view on resellers, I have a feeling Gamester81 doesn't much of a clue on certain things, he just doesn't seem sure. I used to watch his videos a lot though, so it's not a hatred thing. Anyhow, my opinion on resellers are mixed. Some are pure cunts, for example, sells above eBay or eBay prices in their store. What's the point? I'd just go on eBay. Other times they're never ever change their prices, therefore not selling anything.
I agree there are good resellers and bad. The good resellers are on ebay selling cart only games for cheap or maybe that ps1 game your looking for at inexpensive prices. The others are charging high prices on even the most common games. I think the reseller in the video is not passing on his savings to customers. It also really made me sick watching him gloat over winning that copy of Earthbound. That could have gone to a real fan who would have cherished it. Instead he got it and turned it around to resell at horrible prices. As for gamester81, I used to really like his channel so it fascinates me how hes really turned "to the dark side". His channel is now about shilling for his own homebrew games that hes charging huge prices for.
The best resellers are the ones that mass buy things on ebay over market price, basicly outbidding everyone at all cost, because they speculate that prices will rise in the future.
I've never understood the hate that people have for resellers of any kind. When I was growing up, I remember how angry my father would get when there were resellers who would show up early to garage sales on the weekend to snatch up everything cheap and then resell it. I always felt that people that got mad at these things are just jealous that they didn't get there first. What's so wrong with buying cheap and then selling at a profit? This is how the world works, yet everyone gets so mad that someone buys up a whole lot of games (with a large percentage of them being garbage that they have to throw out obviously) and then turns that into a business. On the other hand, I run a home based business where I pick up shipping pallets for free and then turn them into furniture and everyone applauds me for it! On the point that "bad resellers" just mark the games up too high in their own stores, that is entirely their perogotive. If the same sits at a price that is too high for too long then they can choose to mark it down, but if it does in fact sell for that high, then it WAS worth that much to someone. Also, they may mark it higher just to keep it on the shelf giving the image that they have rare games as well as common
I can honestly say I have never liked Gamester81. Not to attack his appearances or personality but he's always been a monotone boring personality and I have always had a bad vibe from him and this video only goes to show that part of my instinct was right. That video was disgusting and I'm so glad I'm not in the US where there are countless scum doing this kinda thing. Thankfully where I am in the UK there are a few shops who all know each other, all price VERY fairly, do great deals and I've come to know them as friends etc. About 80% of my collection as come from these local businesses and car-boot sales (flea-markets to you US chaps) all at VERY good prices! I refuse to pay silly money for games. One of the things that helps me is that I only buy what I really enjoy playing. I don't collect for the sake of having a room filled with awful titles just to tick it off some pointless list.
I don't have a problem with resellers in general. The one practice that does piss me off though is when a reseller goes around a flea market/convention before it is open to the general public and buys up everything. That is an unfair advantage that ruins the hunt for everyone else.
The worst resellers, according to me, are those who own pawn shops because they ait give not a single **** about games, gamers and gaming community as a whole. As a result they price their games using the avarage of BIN offers off of eBay without taking the extra steps to see how much actually the said game was sold in last week or month. Creating a useless peak in prices.
Well, I thought it was a interesting video. Guy seems like a estate sale sort of people, but just with video games. Pretty neat. Also, OP where did you get he was going to sell the Earthbound? He looked pretty happy to own it, looks like he was just trying to show it off.
He has it listed on his ebay store for $700. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EARTHBOUND-...8894?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item1e96ffb36e
...is $700 a lot for Earthbound? I'm not interested in it, because it's stupid expensive. If I can find a copy for cheap, sure, but I'm not that interested in one part of a trilogy that didn't have parts 1 or 3 released in English (yes I know that fans are translating it).
If it's some guy in your local area buying up all the good stuff and then selling it at there sales or game store for ebay prices, screw them. If it's some guy on ebay wanting $200+ for his earthbound, just keep on scrolling for a better price. Always do some extensive research on something you want and know what a good price is.
Bahahhahaa, well that shut down that idea pretty quickly. (of him keeping it) Jeeze... no heart for these guys. I figured since they won something neat at a contest they would at least keep it for themselves to enjoy.
Just like those shows on TV who own pawn shops, and restore things. It's all about MAKING money, they don't care on the products, they just want the money. It pisses me off since that's the reception it's getting now. Just about money, money, money, money.
I made rent for nearly a year, buying systems and games at yard sales, cleaning and fixing them and selling them on. It was hard work, listing on eBay was a many paged process back then (2003-04) and many people still payed by cheque or money order, which had to be cashed at a bank. Goodness knows how many hours I spent scrubbing marker and sticker goo off cartridges, and cleaning dust, food and even vomit (I do not jest) out of consoles, testing them and packaging carefully to avoid damage in transit. It was a full-time job, that paid considerably less than minimum wage. These guys aren't getting rich, they're hustling for small profits and the occasional big score. They might like to give the impression (as in this video) they're making out like bandits, but I know a few resellers, and it's more of a lifestyle choice than a practical way to earn a living.
