Title says it all. What games from 2015 have you enjoyed the most and dumped countless hours into? I'm going to give it some thought and update this post with my top 5. So far I'm thinking... Life is Strange Undertale Fallout 4 EDIT: I have not played Witcher 3. I wanted to play at least 2 before I gave it a go.
1. Super Mario Maker - While the concept of a level editor isn't new, the implementation here is brilliant. Still needs some tweaks, but Nintendo is ironing it out. 2. Splatoon - The best, most creative, multiplayer game I've played since... I don't know, the Dreamcast I guess. 3. Xenoblade Chronicles X - Story took a backseat compared to the original, but the exploration and gameplay are incredibly well done. Online functionality is also nice, and I believe I've already poured 150+ hours into this. 4. The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt - Fantastic RPG with a beautiful world and incredible writing. 5. ...? I dunno, I can't think of a 5th game I actually liked. Yoshi's Wooly World wound up not being so great, Halo 5 was pitiful, there wasn't much of anything good put out on the 3DS this year, and... I can't think of anything other than the four above that I put much time into. Haven't played Fallout 4, but I haven't liked Bethesda since Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and I didn't like Fallout 3 to begin with. Edit: 5. Metal Gear Solid V - Something came out that completely sidetracked me from this (I think it was Mario Maker), but I loved what I played of it, which was impressive since I usually hate Kojima games.
In no particular order: Forza 6 - OK, this is probably number 1 since I played it the most. Halo 5 Rise of the Tomb Raider Arkham Knight Rocket League...maybe? Honorable mentions: Ori and the Blind Forest - only platformer that seemed worthwhile this year. Rare Replay - this barely counts, right? Dishonorable mentions: Mad Max and the pathetic comebacks of Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
I would add Bloodborne and Rocket League to that list. Also, even though i haven't played it, i only heard amazing things about Rise of Tomb Raider. Wish i could play Splatoon and Super Mario Maker as well.
Woo! In order.. 5. Borderlands 2 - Great CO-OP game, was addicted to it earlier. Only thing that could be better was it being longer. 4. Deadalus for Saturn; Fun game, robotic future FPS. Only problem is? 100 random levels, no save. So play it 100% through or die. 3. PAYDAY 2; Another great CO-OP game, well designed, always heavily updated. No real downside. 2. Forza Horizon 1; Racing game, Open world, really fun. 1. PERSONA Q!! Because many reasons. Awesome music, great gameplay, great characters, and an awesome entry point into a game series.
Gotta add Tony Hawk 5 to that list. What didn't you like about Mad Max? I just got it for PC a bit ago and I'm loving it so far. Also @supersega I was trying to get games made this year!
I didn't play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 on PS4 or XBONE, but I did buy it digitally on 360 when it came out mid December. I don't know how "fixed" the last gen version was, but I had a reasonably enjoyable time with it... this is coming from an absolutely die hard fan of the series, though, so I forgave quite a few of its shortcomings. I can definitely see how it's not acceptable as a full priced PS4 release, though; The game barely feels like a first generation 360 game (Tony Hawk's Project 8 was far more advanced). Anyway, it was $39.99 on last gen, so that's a little better than the $79.99 current gen price tag. Ultimately, I thought it was alright. It plays better than Pro Skater HD, and the park editor is decent... but the decision to base the layouts off of the main game levels was a stupid one. The bails are still ridiculous in the 360 version, but the ragdoll was just as bad in Pro Skater HD, and the point of the game is not to fall off of your board, anyway. I must admit, however, that the levels are pretty lame overall. Didn't mind the Berrics, and "School III" was only decent because... well... it's basically School II, except after being kicked and thrown into a blender with giant soccer balls.
In no order. (Also I rarely played 2015 games, so this is literaly my list. Not saying they suck though. =P - Undertale - Mad Max - Splatoon - Super Mario Maker - Fallout 4
The last Tony Hawk I played was on the Dreamcast. I absolutely loved that game. Have the current ones significantly improved that formula? Admittedly I'm two gens behind, but is $80 what people are paying for "blockbuster" games these days?
I thought $60 was the going price here in the US. That's not counting DLC, which I rarely get. No, not really haha. After 4 is where the wheels started to fall off. Underground tried to do too much (with HORRIBLE vehicle segments). I personally loved Underground 2, but it adopted a frat-boy juvenile attitude. American Wasteland was a perpetual tutorial that picked up where THUG 2 left off, and Project 8 was a nice return to form before the series dropped into both mediocrity and obscurity. I love that avatar! I'm liking Mad Max so far. It's not the most exciting open-world game, but it makes up for it by being consistently solid.
1. The Witcher 3 2. The Witcher 3 (because it's that good!) 3. Forza Horizon 2 4. Metal Gear V 5. Forza 6
Likely the last year was the last year that I play anything "new release" so; 1. Forza 6 2. Life is Strange 3. DiRT Rally Don't have 5. Leave me alone!
Well, I think THPS5 is $69.99 in the US, and $79.99 in Canada. $79.99 is insane for any game, in my opinion... but it isn't like this has never happened before (N64 days, for example). Anyway, I never pay that price for games, since 90% of what I play is at least two generations old. Depends on what you enjoyed the most about them. In all honesty, THPS3 was basically the perfect Tony Hawk game... The gameplay didn't really need to improve at that point. The level design was still great, loads of awesome unlockables, and a respectable park editing tool. Everything since then has basically been an expansion on that game. In my opinion, the later games were still very worthwhile. I loved the deep customization options of Underground 1 and 2; you really almost can make your own THPS game with those ones. American Wasteland didn't have anything particularly noteworthy, and the "open world" aspect was a total joke. Neversoft's last Tony Hawk game, Proving Ground, was still great as far as I'm concerned. It was way overshadowed by SKATE, because people were suddenly convinced that unrealistic skateboarding was not fun. Anyway, I'm not bitter; SKATE was a solid game, I just wish the two could have co-existed.
1 Dynamite Headdy Gorgeous graphics, quirky and hilarious story. Really challenging. Really good, catchy, soundtrack. 2 Dishonoured I loved the immersiveness and free roaming. Also a big fan of alternative history/parallel dimension fiction and steampunk. This is actually both steam- and cyberpunk which makes me jizz in my pants. 3 Mickey Mania For a few seconds I was just staring at the screen thinking the first level was a really cool cutscene. It wasn't. This game *really* looks like a cartoon. Great music too. Which is always noteworthy on a megadrive/genesis with it's otherwise generaly horrible sound. 4 Pulseman The perfect mix of megaman and sonic. Except it looks lightyears better than megaman. Once again, great, atmospheric soundtrack. 5 Resident Evil Code Veronica Dreamcast It was easier than I thought, which is a good thing. Great visuals. Nice little walkaround type of game. All in all very well polished product. Yes, I barely play modern games. Because there's just tons upon tons of incredible old school games that I need to play
Don't want to hijack the thread, just curious to know: Can you sell/transfer downloaded games to other people?
I just found out $80 CAD is less than $60 USD. Too bad I don't live near the (land) border. Also I don't think I played any 2015 games that were anything to write home about honestly.
