Your Worst Purchase or Trade Ever....

Back when i was a bit younger and stupid.. i traded Panzer Dragoon Saga (us Sat) and Burning Rangers (us Sat) in to Funcoland (now Gamestop) to purchase Street Fighter Alpha 3 for PS1.... shortly there after i realized what i had done.. (traded two really good games.. for one crappy port)... I regret that so much...

Not to long ago.. i bid on Ebay for a PAL version of Half-Life for dreamcast.... knowing that this was never released.. i figured what the heck.. ended up winning the auction for a little over 10 dollars... turned out it was a burn copy of the US unreleased version... with a ink jet cover and back (PAL).. not really a bad purchase.. (but i could have gotten it for free)..

 

well, thats because half life for the dc was never released.

 

It's not something I did (directly). I once convinced a friend to buy Mortal Kombat Advance at a local K-Mart. This wasn't clearance or anything - the game had just been released. He bought it at full price.

I haven't been forgiven yet .

 

I don't even think there was a unreleased PAL version for that matter..

 

Traded in a shitload of GBA games/Zelda Collectors Edition for Jade Empire. If it was a good game, I wouldn't mind. However, Jade Empire was a shitty, watered down KOTOR with little substance.

 

The pawn shop close to where I live sucks ass, and the guy that runs it is an ass. He buys stuff for WAY too cheap and sells it for WAY too much. Other than that, I spent probably a little too much for some of the games I got off Ebay.

 

bought ET for the atari 2600 for 3 bucks, knowing that it was the crappiest game ever made....

bought a gamecube..know wait....that was a good purchase
bought the army men collection for playstation
and the tomb raider collection too
antz extreme racing for gba...
....i think my games are nothing but a "collection of suck"

bought 3 copies of the pc game "alexander" for 4 bucks a piece at walmart and wrapped them up as xmas presents when the game was back at full price again

 

I know a bad one: I bought Frontier: First Encounters and returned it because I thought the game was too hard, not to mention buggy. It was hard, and it was buggy. It also turned out to be incredibly rare later on .

 

10 years ago I traded a NEC Supergrafx + Battle Ace and 1941 + a dozen PCE games for a Super Nintendo that later I burnt with my mate while modding it.

What a total mug...I still can't believe I did that, 1941 it self is worth a 100 pound now...

I sold like 20 xbox games on ebay in a lot for $30 with BIN when I could have got more with an auction...

 

Let's see, a total of (complete/mint) SNES 7th Saga, Final Fantasy 2/3, Chrono Trigger and a couple other games of no consequence way back when to get Mortal Kombat 2 and 3... I had no money then...

 

I regret trading in my mint copy of Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth, and selling some of my prized PSX RPGs such as: Valkyrie Profile, and Tales of Destiny 2.

 

Was Hoshigami any good? I hear that its great, but it gets a bad score usually because of how hard it is.

 

Its hard as hell but totally fun to play if you are a stratRPG fan.

I sold Vandal Hearts for the PSX to get Thunderforce V. I ended up selling Thunderforce V to get ... I think Final Fantasy Tactics, but I can't recall. A friend of mine lost that manual and I eventually sold him the disc alone. I wish I had kept all those three. I love all those games.

I also sold International Superstar Soccer Deluxe boxed complete for 30 dollars (when it's worth twice that outside Mexico). And I spent the money on Virtual Boy games and paying the bank... I think

I sold Megaman X2 and Super Metroid to buy FF7 back in the day, and now MMX2 alone is worth twice the price of the other two.

I paid a friend 300 pesos (28 dollars) for his Atari 2600 because mine "didn't work", and then I made mine work. Expensive as hell, but at least now I own a "Darth Vader" 2600, and my original "Promotional" woodgrain Atari

I bought an Atari 7800 and it burned the first time I used it. I'll never get those 200 pesos back. But I still have the machine and the controllers. One day I'll try to fix it.

I also feel very regretful of buying Castlevania Lament of Innocence. I'll never get those 350 pesos back either.

But I guess with that Karma, I also got an Intellivision, with 12 boxed complete games for 8 dollars - and I've paid 5 pesos (50 cents of a dollar) for many Atari 2600 games.

I sort of regret having given my PS2 for a friend to mod. Now he's very depressed so I can't really yell at him for breaking my PS2... also he was doing it for free, so I just bought a new one. I was already regretful of buying that first one, as I bought it when it came out and paid 300 dollars for it (yes, at one time, I was a respected young painter in this city, and could afford that. Long story short: never trust agents that might steal from you and then give you a bad rep)

Making any bad purchase really hurts because I make VERY little money, being a teacher and all. But I generally have very little money, not enough to actually buy stuff

 

This goes back to when I was in high school. I was making $3.35 an hour and I saved my dough for three weeks to buy a game for my newly purchased Genesis. So I go to the store and what do I buy?

My first few minutes of play go something like this: Hmm, why is there no music? Why is my character moving like a constipated yak? Why can't I get past this freaking hole in the ground? Surely this game gets better than this. It's got to get better........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Oh well at least I still had Altered Beast to play.

 

My best example of flaming stupidity in recent times was buying Bulls vs Lakers for the Mega Drive, Prince of Persia for the Mega CD and most of the games I've bought some time ago just to dress up the shelves. Heavens forbid I buy another game (unless it is one of those chances of a lifetime) until the ones bought in the past month were at least installed of played a little.

On a different note, the Genesis version of Nobunaga's Ambition come close. While I *do* like the game, and it is probably the rarest cart I have around (except FIFA 98 MD, maybe), it lacks a manual. Which makes understanding the game quite a chore.

My worst purchase is probably a 20e MD2, I mean, the fuckers are everywhere to be found for a lot cheaper. Ah well, I did get a NES with it for an additional 0.30e
Oh and there was buying Virtual On PAL for Saturn for 30e while it's cheaper everywhere.
So nothing as earth-shocking as trading Saga and BR for a quite sucky port of SFA3 ;-)

 

I can't really recall ever making a really bad deal.. the worst I can come up with would probably be the extra snes I have that got a hole in the back of the console (but it still work, just some one who had problem opening it) but I can't count it as bad buy b\c I bhought it knowing it had the hole.
