the one I am particularly interested in is the Zemmix Turbo (the UFO) - from what I read elsewhere the led thingy on top of the console reacts somehow to the game sounds and music? odd. and it's an MSX2 console, nice.

Awesome. I've seen some of those units before, but never the Turbo. It's surely one of the greatest console designs ever and even more spaceshippy than a PCE Shuttle.

I'm quite liking the funky Kobo branded unit with the round monitor and Stealth Bomber-esque keyboard/main unit. It's certainly aimed at children with that round yellow keyboard attachment/cover with the colored shapes on it.

korean hardware seems to be so mysterious, second only to stuff from the middle east - you hear all kinds of exclusive and weird things existing in Saudi Arabia, half of which is probably made up.

The worlds first Mega Drive clone back BEFORE the Mega Drive was officially released in the UK came from the middle East. It was called the Scorpion and also featured full on region and speed mod via switches. They also released the Scorpion II however the 1st one is a real rare beast these days. In fact it was quite rare back then. Also there was a Korean Mega Drive in a Joystick! I've only ever seen one picture this. Does anyone else know about this very odd clone? It came out back when the Mega Drive was still a popular platform.

    I have a skorpion. It's a solid machine. I also
have a few zemmix machines with about 60 games.

    It's got some great originals.

I remember that Scorpion MD clone. We had a small independent game store in my city back then and I had a go on one. They even featured it on the Bad Influence TV show here in the UK.

Bumping this one back up for a couple of questions.

I just got my hands on a CPC-51 with a Zemina copy of Nemesis 3. Before I start doing any testing, I wanted to make sure that the Zemina carts are compatible with normal MSX carts. I have an OCM and would like to test out the cart in that, but don't want to risk killing either.

Also, it appears that the power supply for the Zemmix will handle 110 vac input, but what adaptor do I need to be able to convert the plug to the US standard? It appears to be the same as the UK, but I'm thinking it may be a bit bigger. Any risk in using an adaptor and running it here?

Are all those consoles on that website official or pirate consoles or 3rd party?

Well, I got brave and went ahead and tested my Zemmix after finding what should be the correct plug adaptor and setting it to the 100v setting. Either my adaptor is wrong or my Zemmix is dead, but I didn't even get the power light on it to come on. Tried with and without a cart in the slot, but no luck.

Does anybody have any idea of common failure points or even where to start on this?

It's a CPC-51 with a built in power supply. I just got an adaptor to convert the plug from Korea to US. No extra transformer or anything like that. The switch on the side was set to 100v as well.

I owned a Scorpion (actually called Scorpion XVI, there was a Scorpion VIII famicom clone too). It was not a bad machine, but the controllers were 3 button and sometimes you'd get a blank randomly colored screen and a steady tone. You'd have to reset a few times to get it to work. This happened on a lot of them apparently.

The cool thing was to play with the switches and load games like Streets of Rage to get Bare Knuckle etc.

It was unforuntately not compatible with the 32x, but the MegaCD worked OK. I got mine from Virtual Reality (the game specific Beaties chain).

Ah ok. Check the fuse and if that doesn't work we'll help you find the right internal voltage somehow. If you bought it from EU it might have been fed 220v and cooked the power circuitry.

I'd love to own a mint Scorpion XVI just for the mutated look it has of the original Mega Drive.

You might have nailed this one. I cracked it open and found 2 inline fuse holders in between the mains switch and the transformer. I pulled both and found that one is dead. Tracing back, it appears to the the 110 line, so that explains why I didn't get anything.

The tricky part is this appears to be a glass fuse with a resister embedded in it. The fuse holder designates a .2a fuse, but no indication of the resistance. Unfortunately, it measures open, so I can't get a reading on what it should be that way. Any ideas on where I might be able to find one of these? I suppose I could also solder a resister in parallel with a normal .2a fuse, but that seems a bit risky.

There should be tiny etch on it for the rating. Can you show pics of the fuse?

As requested, here's a pic. I've found 250v 0.2a on one end of it. If I'm reading the color bands on the resister correctly, it's a 91 ohm 1% tolerance. Not sure of the wattage.

If that was blown there's be nothing but black powder inside.

I think the problem lies elsewhere.
