Riiight, so Sega went and burned even more money revamping the textures to make it HD rather than upscalled, despite the fact there is ZERO chance today's angry birds-infused morons will appreciate the game. The same Sega(mmy) that was too cheapass to pay royalties for Crazy Taxi, despite that game being an order of magnitude more popular than Shenmue was, or that couldnt even make a 16:9 version of Sonic Adventure for XBLA. Yeah sure.
What the hell is wrong with you? You shit on Shenmue's long awaited reissue. Call me a Commie.......seriously WTF
I've always wondered if any dev every did this. My bet is that SEGA didn't have the spare cash to do this unless it was only a barebones "HD" conversion.
I like Angry Birds, Lol. There are many gamers out there who can do both. Morons today were morons yesterday too, only that they played moronic FPS crap rather than Angry Birds back in 2000, but they already took an unappreciative dump on Shenmue just as they do today.
TRUE GAMERS will buy Shenmue HD. If Sega Marketed the reissues right (like they Market anything these days) they could remind the Main stream that Assassin's Creed and GTA III on ward would not exist had it not been for Shenmue. Which is true The Tree game set the mold for all Sandbox games.
If they can give Shenmue the same treatment they gave Daytona USA, I'll be a happy gamer. They still probably have all or most of the assets used for Shenmue, so it shouldn't be hard to make a good port. What would be even more awesome is if they included the Japanese soundtrack with English subtitles. Anyway, it is only a rumor, so I wouldn't put too much thought into it. I'm cautiously optimistic. I also saw that SEGA announced (officially) that they're releasing House of the Dead 4 on PSN. I don't think it mentioned anything about XBLA. I just hope they include support for Guncon 3.
Having the Japanese track still won't make the dialogue any less awkward or poorly written honestly imo. The dialogue/voice acting are the only real flaws of Shenmue(in both games and in both languages, especially the second one). If they decide to finally make Part III they will either make it better, or keep it the same for nostalgia/consistency o.o
There's one thing they really need to do and that is make the controls a lot more fluid. I was recently playing Shenmue 2 on my Saturn and man, the controls are so stiff and clunky in this day and age. Still a fantastic game but the controls need to be brought up to date. Yakumo
An upscale shenmue is possible, and after JSR Sega might throw 16:9 into the mix But HD is a remake, you need new textures for EVERYTHING on the game, and maybe even models so its not all blocky Not.Gonna.Happen, shenmue 3 has better odds than a remake of the first 2 OMGWTFBBQ? ON YOUR SATURN?
Read this got shot down earlier which tbh I'm sitting on the fence about. Half of me wants them to see HD versions so everyone that didn't have a Dreamcast and couldn't track down a copy of Shenmue back in the day can play it. Whilst the other half just doesn't want it to happen due to them bodging most of the HD remakes so far. Apparently Jet Set Radio wont have all the tracks from the Dreamcast version which is going to be a real shame if true!
