Now that would sound like a sensible buy compared to a premium 360. I bet many people will have the dillema to choose 360 or Ps3 at that price.
Im guessing sony dropped it because of the price the 360 HDDVD drive is coming in at. Or maybe they had this planned all along so people think "oh well its expensive but at least they dint screw me as hard as before"
$499 with HDMI and 20GBs......not bad, but its still 100 extra bucks than the premium X360, and we're not counting the new bundles with free game and Live hours. I say at $450 they may be able to keep up with the xmas hype, but $500 is too much for the average joe that, like it or not, is a big share of the market nowadays.

it's not so easy to be original nowadays..... by the way, the 20 GB PS3 seems quite a deal... it's only downside are lower HD storage and the missing of a <i>second</i> HDMI port that most of the people will NEVER use.... or i'm forgetting other features?

the buffed version just have wireless lan or the normal 10/100 too? because in case i'll buy it i would need 10/100
Buff version has everything! including a toaster! that's what the sony rep said anyway..ehr.. Yeap, the expensive version adds upon what the "cheap" ones has already, it doesn't subtract anything from the package. In short, yea, 10/100 is in there.
Honestly I wonder what kidn of market we would get if sony went downhill during the nextgen. After all nintendo had one of the worst monopolies in history during the 80s and MS, well, we all know what MS is capable of.... Anyway, think about sony as the lesser of 3 evils...
After reading the factor5 (one of my favourite developers , due to their skills on working low level) interview on ign, and based on the images shown there, I think that the 100 dollar price increase of 360 will be quite evident in terms of quality for some games such as lair - since ports are ports and don't show off any platform specific capabilities anyway.
This is why compition in the game industry is only a positive. Just look at how MS has added 1080p to the 360, or now sony being a bit more reasonable in price/features. And I think MS new policy on repairing 2005 360's is caused by said compitition, as if they were the only one on the market, this wouldn't happen. A 3 way split will result in the best overall experience for gamers, minus a couple negatives(like games being rushed to hit deadlines, quality cut in hardware, ect.
Its been confiremd the price drop will only be for japan. As for the european delay,kutaragi says that there will be so many games for euro launch, that they will forget. Btw everyone is reporting his keynote speech was extremely terrible.
