They probably would if the thing sold better, plus more people would buy a second handheld than a second console.
Maybe I didn't make myself quite clear. I meant that, Nintendo had 3 systems in a row with a wide number of limited editions ( N64, Gamecube, Wii ) And the Wii U has seen only one limited edition thus far ( The Zelda Windwaker edition, but even that was only the gamepad and not the console itself, a bit lazy in my opinion). But I do agree that if the Wii U was more successful, it would most likely have more limited editions.
I realized recently that they've already released the smaller New 3DS in the US. I had read that it was going to come out, but I didn't realize that they had already released it. I haven't seen it at any store, but you can buy it online. The only one I can find is the one that comes with the Animal Crossing cover plate, which is kind of lame; but you can get other ones for it. There's a Zelda one that looks pretty cool. If I wanted to get a 3DS, that's the one I would get. The 2DS has always seemed really stupid to me. You can easily turn off the 3D on any version of the 3DS. Putting both screens on the same side with no hinge was also a terrible idea, I think.
You doubt it until you hold a 2DS in your hands, and it's ergonomically more pleasing than a regular 3DS. All I hear are the same arguments against it repeated.
I'd kind of like one, but they released them like 2 months after the New 3DS and XL came out in Japan, so it's like "why get this now when I can get the better one soon?" Of course the main reason I'd buy one is because I assume it'd be easier to film, because Nintendo hasn't released any adapter for 3DS games on a console.
And it's targeted at parents, because the hinge on the 3DS is the first thing that breaks most of the time. As a bonus for Nintendo it becomes cheaper to make (1 screen instead of 2 is cheaper).
I'd been contemplating getting a New 3DS and was ready to throw money at Nintendo for the Pokemon Red one until I saw that it wasn't an XL.
Ha, all 3 stores in Canada sold out their pre orders of the Red/Blue New 3DS within hours of posting them online. Naturally I miss out on this because I don't have time to sit there and spam F5. Whatever, I'm not surprised. Just checked the US Gamestop.com, they still have stock like a week later. WTF is wrong with Nintendo I guess only thing left to try is to go to the store on the day of release and see if they have any. I refuse to get raped by exchange rate/customs.
Don't worry, you'll get one. It's just scalpers. When they don't sell the ones they've overbought they'll popup in stores again.
I got lucky I had to go to Gamestop the day after they were announced (one of my friends works there, AND THEY HAD THE SPANISH VERSION OF WWE 12 (obviously the best reason)), and after I bought my game I was like "oh, are you taking pre-orders for the Pokemon 3DS?"
