Read that interview about a week ago, and it claimed it was their exclusive (don't remember the site name). I wonder which one stole it (I'm inclined to think GameInformer what with the idiots that run it)
I'm pretty sure how it works is that any release of older 2D games have to be part of some kind of compilation. Of PS2, Xbox, and GC, only Nintendo doesn't have this requirement. So you have things like Street Fighter collection, Mega Man collection, Midway classics, etc. A game with a 2D playing field that uses 3D effects (like Gradius 5) is exempt from this rule.
pretty much. SCEA wont let 2d games to be published unless its bundled or budget price. Has nada to do with hating 2d games. It's just they dont agree with selling them at full price. In regards to Snk, THANK YOU SONY. Yet I heavly disagree with this notion on games like disgia (sp?) which we almost did not get and deserves the full price.
long thread, so i'll just cut to the chase (sorry if someone else mentioned it). I was told by a buddy of mine who is an art director for EA that the 360 had certain technical requirements imposed by MS QA; one of them being that all games had to be able to scale properly atleast to 720p. I'm not sure about the 3d requirement, but I doubt there is one (XBLA games) - so it would just be remastering artwork to scale up.
For Sony of America, yes. Not sure about Microsoft. The Japanese PS2 is a haven of 2D games, old and new. So for those of us that don't bother with North American systems and like old games, the choice is clear. Very anxious to see what SoJ's stance is come PS3 time... if the system will even handle low res 2D properly. It should considering it'll have PS/2 emulation, but we all know how that goes these days.
Ah old school goodness on the Wii, I'm liking it. I never understood SCEA's hate on for 2D stuff, especially given the money pits that arise from poorly produced 3D garbage. But if SNK really makes its presence known on the Wii as well as the whole virtual console deal plus support for independent developers the library is going to be filled with really interesting, different styles of game. Hardcore gamers are going to flock to this.
