Its pretty interesting, I've noticed during major purchase decisions revolving around the 360, peoples boxes always seem to redring. So I guess its appropriate that when I decided to get Live again my box RROD's as soon as I turn it on after returning from the store with the 1 year Live card in hand. In the end I guess it works out. The piece of shit wouldnt eject my disc tray unless I took the faceplate off and picked at it a bit with my fingers.
ahh..this brings back memories to when my 2nd 360 died. We could have a reunion and talk about all the games we played and good times we had on our 2nd xbox 360's.
I have had two 360s, one was a launch one I sold to my friend for $200, and a second I got to replace that one (Core model since I still had the hard drive). Both are still working fine, the only issues I have had is the occasional Disc Read Error and Freeze.
My Xbox 360 hasn't got a Red Ring yet, and I've had it for about 2 weeks, and played the hell out of it already with EDF 2017. Mine is the Elite Model, though.
Well the Elite models should have the extra heatsink to prevent the ring of death, but I have seen them bite the dust, same with the halo 360's as well.
if you have an older out of warranty unit that doesnt RROD yet but needs to be opened (DVD drive issues) is it worth/possible to do something to the GOU cooling wise to try and prevent the RROD? Thanks
Oh dear Fester, why? Have you picked up a dead 360? Pikkon: Nice CLASH avatar! London Calling is a truly stunning album and Joe Strummer is sadly missed.
just that one which is froma guy at work, it works fine no RROD issues ever but it does have problems loading and makes some whirring noises in the DVD drive area (like its not very good! ).. sometimes it will work after a couple of goes, others it takes around 5 minutes to get a game running.. i was just being impatient and as its not covered by the 3 year warranty becuase its not RROD... Still its a complete Premium kit boxed and poly bagged too for £60.....
Well, dot50, the good news is that whatever unit you recieve from them will have the new heatsink and hopefully a BenQ drive. I got one of those, and it's worked out a little better for as much as I play mine.
Sorry to hear of your troubles, dot50. I am very fortunate to not have a single issue with my 360, purchased Jan. '06. With all the problems 360's appear to be having, it has an uncanny resemblance to PS2 issues many users experienced. We had a running joke amongst my co-workers and I while I worked at EB. We said the reason Sony sold so many PS2's is b/c most had to buy 2 - 4 of them (at least) throughout the course of the system's life cycle. So, lets see, approx. 120m PS2's sold. Avg. of 3 per owner. We're looking at 40m sold. Still not bad, though. All kidding aside, just something to think about. It may not be too far from the truth. However, the way the 360 is going, it may not be too far off (avg. of 3 per owner, or more).
Strage thing is: I have a first gen 360 and it is still going strong while a few newer systems from friends bit the dust. They all had theirs stand up like you, dot50, vertically. Mine is lying flat, horizontally, and it doesn´t even get that warm during use. Sadly, my damn dvd drive has to be the loudest ever built into such a console. Unbearable.
