360 does not read EA sports 13 discs. Reads everything else.

The discs aren't defective. I own a game store and tested the same disc on 8 units. It works on 7 of them.

This has to be a security or an update issue of sorts.

Just sounds like the laser is on its way out to me. I am often replacing lasers in xboxes for people - bunch of discs work, some dont. Laser swap and all is well.

Is it possible that the unit has a flashed DVD drive? That would explain why it is unable to read newer discs.

Are all those 7 consoles white XBOX360 consoles? If no, then we have... a bigger headache. lol.

I bet this is the answer or close to it. The fact that all the discs are EA games points to some kind of bootloader (just to use a term) that EA uses that checks for something that its not finding. If its looking specifically for flashed DVD drives used when hacking 360s, then they won't load.

In other words, its a sort of DRM or anti piracy measure but this time on store bought games to not be used with flashed hacked consoles.

That is possible. This is a good condition but used unit. How do I check for that?

I tested all these 2013 games with multiple systems both old and newer style. The games I used were clearly not defective and outside of the 2013 EA sports discs which would not read at all the system was not in any way defective.

Apparently sp had a replacement system, and the same issue arises. Would a certain type of laser have difficulty?

Sounds like a f/w issue, although I've seen stock f/w's acting up.

NHL 2013 isnt XGD3 - which should rule out fw really if that doesnt work too.

Do you have some other modern games? you could confirm if its firmware pretty quickly.... But I am not entirely convinced its fw, as I said - I have replaced many lasers that play up.

FYI in case this helps: I'm no XBOX360 expert, but this replacement unit sounds a bit different when reading discs.. so perhaps it has a different optical drive?

It's been quite some time, but I was quite sure that the rotor sounds made by it are a little lower-pitched (or maybe it was the laser seeking that I heard, but I remember that something told me that it sounded a bit different).

I don't have any other newer games at the moment though. :/

Buyatari will have to comment on this.

There is a good chance it's related to what type of DVD Drive is in your console. Awhile back Microsoft actually stopped supporting consoles with I think particular LG drives that could not support part of their new Anti Piracy protection. But there are multiple different drive models and makes. It wouldn't be a surprise if all the trouble is down to one particular drive. There may be a way to identify the drive in these consoles without opening them/voiding the warranty.

I doubt anything was done on purpose to cause this as EA has nothing to do with anti piracy measures on Xbox 360. That's all done by Microsoft.

Good job I don't really buy any EA games these days...only one I got recently was the iOS remake version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.:encouragement:

So this is only affecting Slim Models at the moment? I have an older style 360 - I think they are better (purely my opinion, nothing more).

If the drive sounds different it could be a revision version of the drive.

Yes, AP2.5 DOESNT WORK on those drives - which means it even easier to play "backups" on!

Not that the game doesnt work, it works fine. Just with less protection, this new protection doesnt stop those drives from working and arent "not supported by microsoft".

So if the OP had a drive that doesnt support AP2.5 - he certainly WOULDNT have the issue thats described :)

Plus I'm getting random freezes for Cod:BO and FIFA13 - usually not total boot failures (which are actually really rare). Halo Reach works fine too, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with AP25.

Which was never my point. ;) My point was that these issues could be related to a particular drive model. I never suggested it was related to protection or modding. Just suggesting some sort of issue with a particular DVD-ROM drive.
