Here's an interesting letter on the subject of PS3's cell capability. As has been mentioned, I'm also reserving judgement on the machine till it arrives but yes, Sony have lied in the past about actual capability so I'm a little wary of their claims. The terms used in the letter are a bit over my head but it seems to suggest Sony are at it again. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23285
Does anybody know how many TFLOPs an ATI X800XT and a Nvidia GeForce 6800 ULTRA can actually do? Cuz their console next-gen types, the Xenos and the RSX seem a little high.
Lidl's better ^_^ Anyway, perosnally I wouldn't rely on measurements like FLOPS, as they don't really relate to how these things perform in Real Life® situations at all. They're just marketing wank IMO...
Lidl rocks - hard. Sadly, I do beleive Sony are bullshitting us. 1% as powerful as the human brain is, well... fucking incredible.
they said this? eh, i just can't understand why computers can be compared to an human brain, or just a brain as well, does anyone know the specs of it's brain anyway? i think it's just not the same thing at all, like a banana and sugar pie. The brain can read and react to informations at an incredible rate, but is the brain only good for that thing? i think the power of the brain is very vast and mysterious, it's alive, and nothing made by the human so far can be placed in the same category, so it can't be compared either.
I couldn't agree more. However most comparison with the brain are based on the fact that it can prosses X amount of video/audio and sensory data per second.
The new xbox development excites me. Supposedly it is fairly painless to go from pc to xbox360 game. If that is the case we should see some pc only games finally coming to a console.
heh, that's what i fear. if you can choose between pc games on a pc and pc games on a console, for the most of time, you choose the first choice.
Yeah, but if more PC games come out on Consoles first, do they become console games that go to the PC eventually? The fudamental problem with PC gaming that I can think of is the price to get the hardware necessary to play games over the years. A Good graphics card lone is almost the price of a new console, if I'm not mistaken. I've heard a couple PC gamers say they'll like to get one of the next gens to offset the need to upgrade their PC yearly. I mentioned the TFLOPs for graphics cards because I've never seen a graphics card measured in that way, I've heard of the amout of X, or Y rendered, etc. However the whole this card can do Z TFLOPs just sounded weird. Sony has seemed to have left some of the more coventional measures of a graphics card out of their spec sheet as well.
Cahaz where do you come up with this.... how many people here couldnt play doom 3 or half life 2... and we are talking mostly about hardcore gamers here! Theres a huge market for PC games on consoles because PCs are just too expensive.
That depends really. If i can use a keyboard + mouse on a FPS game on a console, i see no problem at all.
