    HI all,

After seeing the weekly Roundup from Bob of @retrorgb, he said he was hoping for a 3D printed shell for Game Gear carts.

    So here I'm currently:

Nearly finished, still have the inside of upper part.

    Few points:

    • I can put the Sega logo as long as the patents text on the back. However, I'm not sure 3D printers will catch so refined details.
    • For now I'll try match the original clip system, but since it's a molded shell, I don't think a 3D print will provide the same strenght for the clips. I'll eventually make something more straight forward.
    • Screw will be M2 size, 5mm length .
Once I'm happy with the printed version, I'll make a quick video and publish the files on Thingiverse.

    Stay tuned!

First print test, I haven't the clip fixation yet. However I confirm the screw alone is insufficient.

My printer is a little off on Y dimension (about 1.5/2%) I need to dissasemble/reassemble it.

A few errors in the small holders for the PCB.

    But does it work?
    Hell yeah!

Minor tweaks here and there, adding a clip solution, somes bevels on edges and we should be good.

Looks good. From a design standpoint I'd skip the clips if you're planning on doing FDM prints as most consumer machines just wont get the accuracy you'll need to print those tiny features and have them both work and not break. I'd probably look to add some little standing tabs to the top half of the shell to guide and align the halves in the areas I painted in red.

    Hey Frank.
Unfortunatly rails are not possible since you've got plastic parts on the top and next to the connectors the to avoid the shell of sliding.
As I said, I was more straight forward:

I've added 2 small extra chunk to go on two holes. This should avoid the shell from opening from the top. The rest should be fine with the screw.
BTW original screw is M1.5. But M2 should be good.

Part can be downloaded here on thingiverse:

Anyone know a link to getting good custom labels made?

I designed and printed a label with Retro Game Cases for a custom order that was really affordable. He even cut the rounded corners for me, and I think it turned out really solid (the watermark is my NintendoAge name):
