yeah, I quite loved the c64 port bitd. even had some nice up down scolling and shifting buildings many of the other ports lacked. and the SID tune was..yeah different but still awesome.

The part about the spin dash that was hard to implement and using Sonic Jam's code seems to me odd? Why couldn't they use the code from the ios and android versions because they are:

    Already in HD
    Spin dash (as an option)
Ability to play as tails and knuckles
Different level designs from the original (marble zone act 2 has an alternate path for those using tails / knuckles)
Save game support (as with Sonic 3) so there is no need to have all levels available to you, and if you do just use the iconic (that everyone and there dog should know) up, down, left, right then A + Start at the title screen.
and the inclusion (only with cheats) of having Sonic 2 and 3 items in the game (bubble, fire and magnet shields etc)

Surely that would of been easier to work with Or does Christian Whitehead have the rights to those versions?

There are many reasons why they wouldn't, in software development "couldn't you just" isn't usually the end to your problems it is usually the beginning (Sonic Xtreme was famously screwed over by this).

    1. 3D sonic is not HD
    2. the problem were in implementing much more layers required for the 3D effect but keeping the rest as it is, and not the simple MD emulator per se.

how difficult it really is/would be/was, I have no clue.

As cool as the 3D releases of Super Scaler games were, they probably didn't take that much work to do, while Sega would actually have to put in some effort to make the above-mentioned games work on the 3DS. The motto of today's Sega is "no effort".

    Well, that goes without saying.

And while I'm dreaming up awesome ideas that will never happen:
    3D Guardian Heroes
    3D Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru
    3D Axelay
    3D Lords of Thunder

I would say 3D Radiant Silvergun, but playing vertical shooters on handhelds is awful, unless the shooter is Judgement Silversword, then it works out OK because of how you can rotate the Wonderswan.

Reading the interviews it would surprise me if the 3DS could run anything Saturn related, M2 already struggled to get the Mega Drive games emulated in 3D...
