As I said, it's the 100% fucking same technology behind as already used 25 years ago for simple video games.

The left eye gets blanked while picture for the right is visible and vice versa. Thats it, as simple as it is.

the samsungs must be synched, the panasonics you don't synch. you just turn on and walk up. (makes for easy demoing of the different panasonic models, and a PITA for samsung).

The 3D effect is better than any 3D i've seen on Panasonics, and the samsung is pretty nice.

Is the technology old? Yeah. But it's done BETTER now, so i'm not complaining.

on a lot of samsung's nicer TV's, the 3D is becoming a standard feature on all 7000, 8000, and 9000 models. So for 1,400 (what some higher endstandard LED tvs cost) you can get 46" 3D LED.

It's only a matter of time, the Panasonic's aren't too badly priced either. I can get a 50" for 1,600.

It'll become a standard feature that people who want to take advantage of it will (by buying the glasses).

Is that really how the "new" system works? Shit, you're right. That's just what the Famicom and Master System 3D systems did! I never tried the Famicom one but the Mastersystem worked quite well.

Why don't integrate the 3D feature into the players, instead into the TVs? Basically said, it has nothing to do with the TV itself.

it probably made more sense to synch the glasses up to a TV since they last longer than a bluray player.

someone could use a samsung 3DTV, a sony 3D bluray player (since they have the cheapest one right now) and once the bluray player dies - they keep the samsung glasses.

Once the 3D feature is built into more cheaper bluray players it makes more sense for the feature to be linked to the TV.

I'm waiting for 3rd party emitter kits for the glasses, it'll happen down the line.

also - the 3D feature is built into the TV instead of the player because there are now 3D Cable channels. The first ones are ESPN and Discovery.

Think so too, but it needs some time to get off the glasses...
Many companys test with an 3d feature without glasses
I love 3d cinema, but at home please next step ...

they're working on it. but like i said - it's built into the TV because TV channels are going to be 3D too.

I tried the new Samsung 3D tv here in New Zealand. TV wa blurry, and had like 3 pictures, so I asked for the 3D glasses...

The guy gave them to me and said they were synced.

    Everything was still blurry.

I pressed the button on the right arm, and BAM! I was flung into 3D! It was insane!!!

Clearly the guy in the shop had synced me to the wrong TV, but once we got sorted, the experience was better than any 3D cinema experience.

From what I understand 3D TV is powered (glasses take batteries) unlike cinema, and each lens operates on a "shutter"-type function.

I dunno what this all means, but it looks awesome!

BUT. I don't think I'll be buying it for a good few years yet; I NEED a new TV - in fact I have a big black wall with HDMI cables spewing out, so a nice 55"+ is on the cards, but 3D? Not yet... Too early.

no, the power button is on the top right. not the synch. the glasses were synched already if it worked when you turned it on

I currently have no interest in 3D telly whatsoever. I purchased a 50" Panasonic plasma in January, with full knowledge that 3D TVs were coming out this year.

As with all new technology, the current televisions with 3D support are incredibly expensive and there's not really much to watch on it at the moment anyway. I imagine that WipEout HD is pretty awesome with the 3D patch, but the majority of people are only just upgrading to Blu Ray and LCD. Hell, I'm more interested in when I can get Alien and Aliens on normal two-dimensional Blu Ray.

From what I've seen/read, there are ways of getting the same effect without the need for daft glasses. I have a funny feeling we'll be seeing "all-new glasses free 3DTV" at some point in the next few years, depending on how the current sets do. They will shove this technology down our throats, whether we like it or not. I just have a scary vision of the nation in a few years time all sat there with daft glasses at 8pm watching the "bovver bein' sorted aht in the Square" in High Def 3D chav-o-vision :-(

I'm going to bring my NES to work and try it out in 3D since the Samsung models can convert 2D to 3D.

one thing I was not prepared for is the common question "what do you mean 2D?" and "What is 2D?"

I think no one can argue that the effects are impressive, but I'm not sure if the interest will wear out. Wonder how impressive the 3DS will be actually...

Same here. I have Aliens on DVD and it looks amazing upscaled on my 40' Samsung.

I'm curious about the blu-ray release, mostly because of the film James Cameron decided to use, that made the picture having tons of film grain.

I honestly hope they don't use any smooth software to make the picture cleaner.

Well it's kind of like razor blades, the more "D's" it has, the better.
