Hello, I have this unit at home : I don't know if someone have a 3DO development station on this forum but I want to know if it can play 3DO games without a Mac.
isnt this whole tower a powermac ? i think some normal powerpc with the cpu used in a 3do and maybe a aditional card for 3do emulation, thats how they did it at the 3do m2
I don't think so - I think that was just because the M2 used some PowerPC-based processor. That case looks like a modified (rather cheap looking) PC AT tower, and that CD-ROM drive looks identical to a Matsushita double-speed I have (one of those proprietry non-IDE ones). God knows what's inside that case though!
That's right. It's a development station. In fact you must write the code of your software with the SDK on a mac linked with a NUBUS card. This tower emulate a 3DO player. I just want to know if it works alone.
It was selled by Bill Heinman. He made Wolfenstein 3D version for 3DO and few other games. I bought him this dev kit.
There a some PowerPC PC i HAVE ibm have PowerPC 601 workstation for NT4 & (NT5 Beta2) Motorola PowerPC 601 Server and PowerPC 603e workstation for NT4 & (NT5 Beta2) Custom (rom swap from Motorola PowerPC 603e Workstation Bios) Apple PowerMac7220 PowerPC 603e workstation for NT4 & (NT5 Beta2)
I would just try turning it on and seeing what happens. It seems to have all the things a normal 3DO has...controller ports...video output...cdrom drive... Short of there being something horribly wrong with it internally, I don't see how anything can go wrong.
and there the legend tells: he pushed the switch, the machine bursted into sparks and flames and vanished... i thinks its cool to hear such stories like the wolfenstein piece its always amazing to see what stations a development units met in its life cycle
Ouch, something similar happened to me last week (not with a 3DO devkit but with a Japanese Playstation). Because my PSone started acting up I tried swapping around various lenses with various Playstations, whilst I was distracted by a mate, so I didn't pay attention and plugged a 230V power cable in my Japanese PS, with the top half of the case off. First I heard a "puff" like sound, and after about 5 seconds, BOOM! the capacitor went up in a nice old-fashioned cloud of white smoke. Fortunately the PS was free anyway, and a new capacitor isn't terribly hard to come across.
See, if you used a *normal* voltage like the rest of the civilized world, stuff like that wouldn't happen.
What, you're saying the majority of the world is uncivilized!? It's only Japan, most of the Americas and a couple of other screwy countries that use 100-120V. And I bet you the line going into your house is 240V, and your cooker and tumble dryer (if electric) are probably 240V too!
Death by Alternating Currents Over time the electric chair has ranged from 700V (mis-reported?) to 20,000V @ 6A to 20A. :death Source: TheElectricChair.com - believes the Washington Times mistook current for voltage on 700V report. ~Krelian
