tonight i have my last shift of work so tomorow i check the manuals and the cd completly iam sure we can work that out
ahh waiting was good just found the perfect mac i think 8100/110. MacOS 8.1 installed 112 MB RAM 2 GByte hdd CDROM drive floppydrive Ethernetadapter Original Mac- keyboard Original Mac Mouse
ok today the mac arrived so now some littles things left before i can start with the 3do m2 checking =) since its doesnt have a normal vga connector is there a way to let this mac run on a normal pc like monitor ? i see at least 2 monitor connector: 1. on the graphic card which i think can be driven with a normal vga monitor through a cheap adapter db15-vga or am i wrong ? 2. on the left site (3rd from top) there is a straight connector which looks like some kind of dvi connector (where they already around in 1995 ?) so could i just stick my lcd on that ? (havent checked if they even fit physically but they look not too much different) heres a picture of a similar powermac so you know what i mean (sorry for huge size)
1. Yes, you can run most old Macs on a standard VGA monitor using the adapter you mentioned. Apple-branded monitors from that era often had a weird connector, but if you're using a standard VGA monitor then you should be OK. I used to run an old pre-G3 Mac and installed a Voodoo PCI card which allowed me a straight VGA connection with no adapters needed. 2. I have no idea what that DVI connector thing is...never seen it before.
ill try one of these adapter first (they are cheap enough 5euro or so) so it doesnt matter hmm the vodoo card i dont think theres one out for the nubus slots but i check that later thx very much for the answer
lol thanks for that hint my 23"lcd has a composite in for video i just switch it in there so i dont have to wait the 2-3 days till the adapter arrives =) btw. the picture isnt my powerpc but it should be the same model iam a little behind with my photoseries since i also have pictures of the 3do m2 cards and some other stuff on my digicam but hadnt time to load it to the pc
Oh, this is a Nubus model? Then no, no 3DFX Voodoo cards exist for this model. Give the adapter a try...I'm 99% it will work just fine.
Wery old thread but may be you still not know what "Opera" is, so i answear you. (In our country we have funy locution for similary situations - "To Walk with the cross after funeral" :-D ) I read interview with developer team of first 3DO, he work on M2 before was sold to Matsuchita too. He in interview call first 3DO Opera and use phrases as "Evan Opera has better audio than Playstation". 3DO supports Dolby Surround sound, that was one of reasons for initial big price. Its shame that has too short life. Many games look equally same on PSX and Saturn, some of it has lower FPS on 3DO, but that never bothered me. For example: Killing Time, Space Hulk, Novastorm, Total Eclipse, Wing Commander III and many more. Shock Wave 2 on 3DO (3DO exclusive title) have better graphic than Shockwave Assault on PSX and Saturn with is compilation of Shock Wave and mission pack Shock Wave: Operation Jumpgate for 3DO. Shockwave Assault look little better on PSX and Saturn, but Shock Wave 2 look definitely best of al Shock Wave titles, even PC version of Shockwave Assault. Many people thing that 3DO was dead in half of year 1995, but game on 3DO was released until year 1996 end... If 3DO company not reporting susscesor M2 too early and than too long develop it, 3DO can live until end of 1996 - and that was correct time for release of M2. Also he do wrong thing when cancel M2 in addon version for existing 3DO units. 3DO was good console system with bad marketing !
Same can be said about most of failed 90s consoles, with the exception of Virtual Boy, Game.com and Jaguar where hardware was the main reason for failure. Well, 32x too as it was bad move from the start - Saturn was almost there, why sell a half of it? For sound, well FZ-10 can easily compete with very expensive units as a CD player in terms of sound quality.
I wouldn't say it was bad marketing. That implies that the product was excellent, but marketed in a way that led to failure. The 3DO might have been an OK console, but the vast majority of the games and the controller sucked. Uninteresting product with bad marketing at best. Now the Dreamcast however would be a great example for a truly high-quality console with excellent games, that ultimately failed due to bad marketing... and the lack of DVD maybe.
