A lot of interest. Mortal Kombat trilogy was built on the UMK3 engine. MUGEN builders could use the high-res elements to build new, cleaner charachter packs. People could learn more about the 3do by looking at how Digial Eclipse ported a mess like UMK3 to it...There's quite a lot of possibilities for good things that would come from such an open release. It might even lead to even MORE ports to systems you never expected to see MK games on. (remember Ed Boon's "Mortal Kombat Trilogy NITRO" joke? good times..) Or it may help that one guy with his "Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy" Megadrive hack. I'd certainly be willing to put forward a little bit towards seeing a release like that. Obviously i'm excited.
Hope its okay to bump this, but I too am very interested in this. The UMK3 source code could lead to a "correct" version of MK Trilogy, with all the stages and all the characters. (because of legal reasons a lot of the mk1/2 characters could not be used) then online play could be added (maybe even with voice chat) and then.. oh yeah, then ports could be made to xbox/wii/ps2/dreamcast/psp/etc And hell, maybe even a port to Snes could be made with sprites from the Snes games. So yeah, very excited and would gladly donate should such a donation rally exist.
They are not dead. I backed the data up to other sources when I first received the disks without problem.
I was wondering if you could tell us more about the source and art, is the source complete? and is it just the rewritten 3DO source or is the Arcade source code also there? And what is this art cd? art from the game as in sprites or just promotional stuff?
Have you given any thought to if you're going to release this code to the public? I know, bumping old topic but it's better than making a new one IMO. And I still very definately want to see the hodgepodge that Williams and others went through to port it. It'd be amazing to see how the final binaries we got on several systems came from it. I'm primarily interested to find out if there's source for the arcade machines or if it's ONLY for the port.
Since today marks the 6 month anniversary of this thread, I decided to reply here. I keep hoping that this amazing find will someday be shared with the MK fans, so that maybe one day the fans can create the sequel to MK Trilogy, and fix all that was wrong with the original. (missing characters/stages/fatalities/wrong music/etc) and perhaps even add online play. Furthermore ports could be made to Linux/Windows/Dos and consoles like the Wii & Xbox and PSP and the Wiz. Here's to hope!
From what I saw on the disks, it was code specific to the 3DO port. I'll see if I can grab an image of a directory listing from the Art Elements disk and post that here. IIRC, there were not a lot of files on the Art disk.
Anything new about this? with all the recent MK stuff going on this would be a great time to release that source code.. ray:
I could help you get some of that money back if you're willing to share, as fanatical as I am on the subject I can't find the pm button! ?
Yes I think there are a couple of us here who'd be willing to donate to such a cause. And I for one would gladly chip in if bitrate decides he's up for this.
