WTF indeed, who's buying this thing anyway?

Everybody apparently, since the 3DS broke the 5 million barrier before any other nintendo console before, thus becoming the fastest selling console they ever did.

    Check: http://translate.google.com/transla...endo.co.jp/corporate/release/2012/120220.html

Anyways, told you guys if nintendo cutted the price to sub-$200 it would sell like crazy.

Here hoping Sony goes all in and lowers the Vita to less than 200 too, and things may get interesting:nod:

Its started to sell like crazy after they released mario kart and mario land, of course the price drop helped, but didnt do much for the sales at that time.

This is just because of the consumer mentality of this day and age. People love to buy stuff, even if they don't need it. So there isn't anything else in this world people can get more satisfaction from than telling each other what they just bought for themselves.

"So I got the newest Nintenderd that does nothing!"

I probably won't buy a 3DS anytime soon, if ever. The market has been well saturated with games and portable gaming doesn't appeal to me anymore. But I guess I'm not surprised that the 3DS is selling. They took a deep price cut to do it.

I bought one cause of the Limited Zelda Edition. I've only got 4 games for it, and actually they're quite good. I've really found to play these games on the go other than before going to sleep or doing research.

It's a nice console to own no doubt, but I'm sure the first version will most likely be ignored. Who knows?

People who are buying it are Parents, I saw around Christmas time parents buying 2 3DS consoles with a game, and sometimes even a line of people with a 3DS in their hand.

Resident Evil Revelations looks fantastic, but I'd rather play it on my iPhone TBH rather than buy another device with a bulky add-on. Hopefully these figures are true for Nintendo. The landscape has changed dramatically for their them, I'm impressed they can still pull it off, let's see how the Vita will perform...

I saw Resident Evil Mercs on Capcom's website trailer and then saw a review with a capture device and the graphics were horribly misrepresented on Capcom's website, looking far better than they really were. I was somewhat tempted to buy it just because until I saw that. Either way I came to my senses not to waste money on another portable.

How much I hate the fact the regular NDS support is being tossed aside by none other than Nintendo, my slowly dying DS Phat will be replaced soon with just that: a NOS Phat from Nintendo themselves (they're just two blocks away where I live). I just hope by then they still got one.

I have still only come across 2 people with them, most i know are sticking to the Lite and XL, and only Resident Evil has got me excited about the 3DS but can't justify buying one when i never use my DS-Lite anyway

Agree. Most people will buy just to have it, these are just waiting for an excuse. Like " I'll buy it if the price drops" or " I'll buy it if "insert game here" its released".

Im myself a Nintendo fan and I'll probably pick one up too, but I mean, I have so much great older systems and games, I dont mind waiting to it build up a strong library, really dont care about these hypes

I'm not 100% sure but I have some evidence it could be gamers that buy that "thing".
Mind you I could be wrong.

DS came out in 2004, it's about time Nintendo shifted to a new platform.
If you are a late buyer then there is a vast library to check from.

Add on isn't really needed for RE:R that's why despite owning it I don't use( feels really strange to play RE with dual analog ).
Awesome production values and I'm glad I can play it on a handheld and not on my iphone.

Indeed however you are in the wrong forum.
Videogames in general are pretty much useless.

My beef with them is their continued strategy of making half-arsed versions every two years, gradually eliminating the original purpose. (I got mine in 2006 I think?)
The Wii has had the same thing going on, I don't see this happening with other major manufacturers... this actually made me hesitant of ever buying Ninty again, because you know you're gonna get fucked anyways if you don't go with the flow.
(ie Zelda Four Swords GBA: playable on regular DS, but no linking with GC, not multiplayer. The recent anniversary edition was only for the DSi versions and up. Just one simple example, but this is something Ninty is very good at...)

I am just now considering to buy a DS because I have just discovered the joys of the Korg DS-10, and thought about how it will considerably up the interactivity of my many moments a day spent in public transportation systems. Also I've tried Ketsui at a friend's a few times and really liked it.

So yeah, 3DS isn't for me anytime soon either. And it's not even that it doesn't interest me in any way, it looks like fun, and I've never had any issue with 3D stuff (I can play Virtual Boy for three straight hours and come out fine), but I just don't need it.

You mean like the psp did the 1000,2000, 3000 series, go, ps3 rev2 with no ps2 support, ps3 slim, xbox revs, slim, iphone variations etc?

They are always improving something and droping something out that the major comsumers dont give a shit to cut price.

Just because Nintendo does "major" modifications on the design people think its a new console and say "they are making me buy a new one". I dont see people complaining about getting an iphone 4s or even a ps3 at the time when they droped the ps2 compatibility. Nintendo have been supporting the backwars compatibility alot compared to others companies, but as most people see, no one gives a shit and very few people ending up using it.

I'm amazed that anyone is surprised that the 3DS is selling truth be told. Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Resident Evil Revelations are all must have/top quality titles, and history alone should have told every single one of you that the sales for the Nintendo handheld would pick up once it had a Mario game and a Mario Kart game.

Now, just wait until it gets a 2D Mario game. Then you'll really see something.

That is what every knowledgeable gamer that's budget tight should be doing. Knowing their isn't any "must have" games yet is a pretty big deterrent as well.
The DS was the last good Nintendo endeavor for me, hoping 3DS has a similarly sweet library as time goes by...
