Tempted for some reason, but I'm holding off since not many new games seem to hold my interest long. Plenty in stock at every store here in my area...I guess they'll be in hot demand in a few months as the holiday buying season approaches.
My two cents...... I have had a ds lite from 2006-present. I love it. However I suspected that as I aged it would slowly kill my eye balls, staring at it's lovely, antiquated screen. After buying a XL in June, I can say I was correct. Now playing the ds lite feels painful. The XL could be the last handheld I ever have to buy, considering the 8 years of quality titles available. I recommend everyone who's wanted one, go get one now, as their value seems to have depreciated slightly since the 3DS launch.
Put me in as another vote for "more interested in DSi XL". Im starting to have doubts now though that the price will drop much further on them, which is unfortunate. Nintendo pricing can be hard to predict. They could either be reduced further of just disappear from the market altogether.
I don't understand why you'd want a DSi XL. It's a handheld; why would you want it to be gigantic? Personally, I think the DS Lite's screen looks great, and it's really compact. It was huge improvement over the original DS. The DSi and DSi XL just seemed like minor upgrades. The 3DS, on the other hand, is a completely different system, other than the fact that it still plays DS games.
The Dslite is a beautiful design IMO, nintendos best ever. Simple, clean and elegant. It looks really plush and I think this helped it succeed. The original ds was disgusting!!
The DS Lite might be a pretty design, but am I the only one who doesn't like how it feels? I just can't play anything on it for longer than a few minutes, no idea why. Maybe it's the form factor? Got no problems, tho, with my original DS or, hell, even my GB micro. Anyway, as for the 3DS, I'm glad about the price drop, although there's still not much on it that I'd want besides Zelda OoT. That should be nice to go back to, better graphics and all that, but it's no killer app. I am looking forward to Kid Icarus, Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D Land (or whatever) - and was really looking forward to a certain game Capcom had recently killed off - so at least once two or so of those are out, I'll be getting the system.
Just taken advantage of the Tesco offer and bought a 3DS for £115 ($187) but haven't got a clue what games to buy. I like racers so is Ridge Racer worth picking up or is there a better one out there? I'm not into serious racing games, just pick-up-and-play arcade style ones. And what's the DOA game like? I've got SSFIV:AE on the PS3 so don't really need it on a handheld too. Finally, is Pilotwings worth persevering with? When I tried a demo instore a while ago I couldn't get the 3D to 'work', is it just as playable in regular mode or would I be missing out on anything? Any and all suggestions taken on board, including items from the online store but bare in mind I'm limited - I think - the the Euro store only.
If you like arcade racers, RR is a good pick. Steer clear of Asphalt. DOA is DOA, but if you're used to seeing pretty PS2, Xbox, or 360 graphics it's a bit of a letdown... somewhere between Saturn and PS1.5. For me I was super excited for Pilotwings because I loved the N64 game so much... but then found the 3DS version a real letdown. Found it repetitive and short. A lot of people forget that it used to be a Wii game, but N lost confidence in it so it became a 3DS title... a port of a game that wasn't.
Thanks for the advice, looks like it's gonna be DOA, Ridge Racer and Puzzle Bobble Universe then, but is Asphalt really that bad? It looks to me a little like the San Francisco Rush games, and whilst that's no seal of quality or glowing recommendation I've played games that looked and handled much worse.
