I just got my 3DS. I was the first customer to get one (one of the people who worked there got one first). I've only used it a little bit but I'm pretty impressed. I played Ridge Racer 3D, and the graphics are a lot better than people have been saying. It looks pretty cool to me. I'll take pictures later if people want.
Congratulations! Got my 3DS on launch too, sadly no midnight sales over here in CH. But was the first customer of one store-chain. But a friend who bought at the competition got it earlier, they opened at 0900, mine opened at 1000. It's a great little device. Full of potential, which one or two launch games already tap into.
Congrats, glad you were all able to get one and there wasn't any huge line of scalpers thats been going on with the ipad 2 for a few weeks since launch. Looks like Nintendo is doing a good job with this launch of getting it in peoples hands who really want one.
I took some pictures. I'll upload them later. I noticed that all of the 3DS hardware starts with "CTR." The system itself is CTR-001. Does anyone know what CTR stands for? Is there a codename associated with CTR? EDIT: It seems nobody knows. Some think it's "Century."
Got mine last night at midnight. Pilotwings is a lot of fun, IMO. System menus are very slick. Midnight launch itself was a joke. I was hoping for a spectacle and I didn't get one, lol.
Got mine last night at midnight, along with Pilotwings Resort (Amazon had already gotten Ridge Racer 3D to me). Thoughts: Put in about 3.5 hours straight today (and then the battery started to go ). Still no headaches or eye strain, and the 3D was all the way up. So far my favorite game is Pilotwings Resort. Though Face Raiders is frickin' AWESOME! As is the Alternate Reality game. Ridge Racer 3D is absolutely stunning (well, the tracks are, the vehicles... not so much). Almost done 3 starring everything on Gold in Pilotwings Resort. First glider mission is killing me though. Also, reviewers are retarded, there is way more variety in Pilotwings Resort than in either previous Pilotwings game (in terms of missions). Issue: Keeping the "sweet spot" IS difficult. It just wasn't difficult at Best Buy with a bolted down machine. If you really get into games and have a habit of moving the "controller" with close calls, it becomes an issue. Also, I'm having a weird issue. I'm seeing a lot of... I guess ghosting? I see the 3D, but sometimes I'll see a "ghost" of something on screen to the right of it. It happens a lot during the rocket belt missions in Pilotwings Resort, and it happens with the "avatars" of racers in Ridger Racer 3D when I get close to another car. Its a bit annoying... and I see this even in the "sweet spot" (its just a little bit less noticeable).
The first issue I expected to be a bigger issue once people had units not bolted down anymore. I find this problem to be an issue when i'm more tired then when i'm more awake. The second issue I also get but I find it worse when in tunnels. What I think is happening is you eye is slightly seeing some of both images in one eye. I get this more often when i'm tired and not keeping the system properly oriented to my eyes. It's really disappointing at times. =(
I went up to Best Buy and I really want to try this system out but the launch titles look pretty weak. Not a system seller in the bunch. Almost every game was a rerelease of an existing title. I hear some people like Pilot Wings but I am not a fan of the flying games. Are there any games worth picking up at the current $40 price tag? What happened to Zelda and Kid Icarus ?
Problem is, I can sometimes even see it on t he lowest settings. Also in ridge racer I feel the 3D effect is at it's best on full strength, anything less and the 3D effect feels really weak. I really need to get my self some more 3DS games but due to the earthquake in japan, there really isn't much to buy (bunch of stuff keeps getting pushed back).
Yeah, I turned the slider down but I still see the ghosting. Its really bad on the rocket belt missions on Pilotwings Resort. Any bullseye type pattern makes it very obvious. A lot of the guide orbs have it too, and I see it fairly bad when my avatar is standing around after finishing the mission. Its not much of a problem on the other modes though... mostly just that one. I'm hoping its just developers coming to grip with the tech, and not an actual hardware issue, because it is annoying as hell.
Sweet... Play-Asia is having a 20% off sale. Sucks Gundam 3D Battle didn't qualify. =( I'll just wait and snag it else where since I can find it for $62 at buygame2 vs $69 at play-asia. So since I'm in the mood for puzzle games and since the price was far more reasonable I got Shanghai 3D Cube ($33) & Tobidasu! Puzzle Bobble 3D ($41). I would have gone for monkey ball but not in stock (so doesn't qualify). =( Too bad steal diver got postponed or it might have been old enough to qualify.
There wasn't much to see at the launch where I got mine. Just a bunch of people lined up inside, not even outside. They let you pick up your system and any games you bought based on when you payed for it. They let you pay for it at 10pm, and I just happened to (intentionally) be the first person to pay for mine, and thus I got mine first. Here are some pictures of my 3DS and box. This thing is really damn shiny. The 3D effect is pretty cool, although it can be difficult to keep the device at the right angle to see the 3D effect. Ridge Racer 3D is pretty cool: I think it looks and plays as good or better than any other game in the series. One really cool feature of the 3DS is the circle pad. It's basically like an analog stick - it feels almost like you're playing a console. It's not a little tiny one like the PSP's stick, it's pretty damn bit. Also, contrary to what people have been saying, the build quality seems pretty good. I think you're probably slightly out of the sweet spot. If you see ghosting on the right side of the screen, turn it to the right. If you see ghosting on the left side of the screen, turn it to the left. That usually works for me. Here are some pictures. I'll take one later of the little "#1" sticker they put on the top.
I am sad, appalled even, about the 3DS launch in Mexico. It's out, yes, and even in Blockbuster for some reason. And it costs 5,999 pesos. SIX THOUSAND pesos. 502 dollars. What the fuck. Whoever can afford that shit, can also afford the trip to the States or the Credit Card to buy it online - and whoever cannot afford to import or travel... well, we cannot afford the system at this insane price, either. Not one unit had sold, when I went to Walmart this morning. Who would be stupid enough to get it for this price??? So, yeah, my friends are going to L.A. in June. I'm not getting my 3ds until then. And I even had enough money to get it, at the American price, this time...
Been playing with my brothers', It's pretty damn good, What I don't understand though is that I thought the bottom screen was the same resolution as the DS screens but I guess not because it looks a lot more crisp than than that. And un-scalled/Unfiltered DS games look pathetically small. It's even more hilarious how small Mega Man Zero is Unscaled in MMZ collection! And I'm super glad at how good games look in 2D with a lack of AA. Albeit some lackluster 2D assets in SFIV like the "WINNER" Logo Bottom line for me: Buy it for 3DS games and Virtual console/AR Cards/DSiware what not. But keep your DS around. Also: I have seen zero Ghosting with 3D on and off when i've played with it. so *shrug*
Once I turned Pilotwings Resort down to about 25% on the slider the problems mostly went away. Later on that game is virtually impossible to play with the 3D at max due to ghosting (which, as subbie said, goes NUTS in tunnels). Its a lot more subtle in Ridge Racer 3D, so I'm going to keep the 3D at max for that one, because it is so damn pretty. :love2: Now I just wait for SSFIV and Steel Diver...
