Well, my six year old brother is truly epic in my eyes. He's playing Sonic The Hedgehog on the Genesis at the moment, and he's pretty damn good at it. I also have him set up with Street Fighter 2, Mortal Combat, Shadow Squadron, and a few other various games. He seems to get into the older systems more than he does the newer systems, but hey, it's fun playing something with him that I use to enjoy at his age.
I am glad to hear that he seems to enjoy the classics. You are nice to provide him with such sweet games. Also, if I ever have a kid, I will raise them young on all classics and never tell them about the hologram gaming technology that will probably be around then until they see it in a store or something or catches me using it!
Haha, the classics are where to start. He has autism and is a bid rough with somethings, so I want to start him out with stuff that even I had a hard time messing up at his age. He has a DS with one of those NERF cases on it that I gave him as well, although he annoyingly chewed the stylus. I have a 3DS so it wasn't a big deal to me. Whenever I get my 64drive, I'll have a hard time protecting my N64 from him. Oh well, I'll introduce him to the original Mario Party or some Bomberman 64. Note: All of my siblings have played the classics, the youngest three are getting into them now, but me and my siblings that are a year or two younger than me have all experienced them. Heck, we all use to get together and hardcore Kid Chameleon on the weekends.
He has autism? Get him on some cave shooters stat. I need to test my theory that to be good at Cave Shmups you have to have some kind of Autism and my brother and sister (both have Autism) could give two shits about video games.
Haha, you don't have to have autism to be good at any game. My brother loves games though, since I've always played them since he was a baby, he's been exposed to a lot of the gaming world. My entertainment center is loaded with game consoles, so yeah.
When it's raining bullets on screen having autism helps or at least that's the theory (people with autism usually have that 1 thing they excel at) but it was a joke it was just a good time to lay it down. Ever see the wizard? Didn't that kid have autism (or rather the character? I love Power Glove it's so Bad
There are million kinds of autisms out there. Not every kind helps you in daily stuff to become a Rainman for real.
I've seen it all, I've been ALMOST KILLED by a 6'5 autistic kid, I've seen kids that can't speak at all, Kids obsessed with Frogs, Obsessed with chess, There's my brother who is just in his own world but still tries to communicate and my sister who doesn't do much other than say where she wants to go to eat and watch Barney videos and Cooking shows. Actually I haven't seen it all. The Problem is almost anyone now can be diagnosed with some form or autism because the criteria is way too broad now and not nearly narrow enough.
Autism is a spectrum disorder which is why it is so broad a diagnosis. Though I don't know offhand if there is any way to narrow the diagnosis down to anything more concise.
Eleminate PDD and Aspergers from existence. or at least Aspergers, it's the whole reason I wanted to become a psychologist
I never said it was a false diagnoses, or even if it was aspergers, which it is not. If you're going to assume that people with autism are stupid or even imply it, then don't comment in this topic where I was talking about my younger brother.
No no no not like that my man. I don't think I implied it at all, People with Autism are usually far far FAR smarter than they let on. My sister is the perfect example she's very simple and thick but she has moment's of brillance even though her mindset isn't much more advanced than a 3-4 year old. And My Brother.....a bit more advanced than my sister you can carry a conversation with him but he goes off on weird tangents sometimes. I'm just saying The Diagnosis of Autism and those things in the spectrum are being over diagnosed and exploited as of late and that's in part to an over diagnosis of Aspergers which I don't think should even exist becasue it's far too vague a thing and every aspect of it I can explain as being something else entirely. But I can understand why you would misunderstand me, there's so much Ignorance about Autism and what it is that's being passed around as fact it gets very frustrating. But anyways before I get back on my soapbox, sorry man I didn't mean to imply anything if I did, I'm sorry that was not what I intended.
I agree completely. I blame it on the shrinks they take the kids to for a diagnosis. Seemingly blaming inability to cope academically and misbehavior on poor parenting is either A. not allowed to be said or B. The shrinks want more money from further appointments. I can guess which. I dont deny autism exists (because it definately does) I dislike how a diagnosis is made. Someone I know (7 year old) was recently taken to be tested or whatever for ADHD. Which is an absolute joke because he's just a total shit. His parents are TERRIBLE. My mother when dying was once there when he was acting up and she discplined him for the short time she was there. His parents just don't discipline him.
ADHD can be detected via brain scan it's just... the money the drugs bring in they don't even bother and just slap the diagnosis on It's shit like this that is why I decided to get in to Psychology, Maybe I can actually DO SOMETHING about it and get the people that actually do have problems the help they need and the ones who were just labeled to GTFO and get off their meds or at least help the misdiagnosed adjust to life agian. I'm a Victim of the system but if I have any say nobody else under my watch will be. All I ended up having long story short was Severe Generalized Anxiety Disorder. For example in Target or Wal-Mart I get VERY anxious and nervous for no real reason and while I'm not quick to Anger if I do get pissed off, I completely lose my ability to think rationally. The other day I was at a motivation seminar and this asshole was speaking trying to sell shit, I had to leave the arena because If he kept going I may very well have either A) Gotten a Live Mic and Told him off or B) Beat his ass and there wouldn't have been enough security in the BUILDING to get him off of him. But yeah all these years "EXPERTS" thought I had either ADD, ADHD, or Aspergers when in Reality it was just Severe anxiety and 2 Psychologists I've seen agree I don't have any of those ALTHOUGH Honestly an ADHD diagnosis would make alot of sense for me because I can't sit still when I'm in deep thought and my mind does trail off alot. Autism is just well, it's weird because there are countless ways it manifests it self No two people with Autism are exactly alike even in families. But it's not my field of study, I'm getting into Therapy and Grief Counseling. (Both the difference between Psychotheripist and Grief Councilor is about $40,000 more a year for the former) Oh before I end your first point the real reason for over diagnosis, it's two fold, They can sell a shit ton of Medication which isn't too Chemically different from COCAINE (RITALIN IS A CHEMICAL VARIANT OF COCAINE YEAH NOBODY EVER SAYS THAT) AND in the case of high functioning autism over diagnosis the more people "have autism" the more money goes towards "Research" Yeah but how's the for disturbing Ritalin is basically Cocaine.
One reason I feel I'm lucky I was never born in the U.S. for: these fake diagnoses. Otherwise I would have at least have ADHD diagnosed because my "great" teachers when I was a kid couldn't "discipline" me. I am not hyper-active, even if some people thought I was. Why? Because they can't be half arsed to look after people. It's simply making money off of people by pretending they have something they have not. It's a win-win situation for doctors and pharma companies.
It's not just in the US, England and Australia are on the over diagnosis bandwagon too. AND YES in the case of prentending to have something they don't that's true for 100% of the people with Aspergers they think they have it, get checked out and BAM you have a license to be an anti social asshole.
I'm shocked Autism Advocates haven't tried to have me Killed. I hat a You Tube Video up once that voiced my opinion I had to pull it the heat on me was so bad. But I'm glad I piss them off I just wish they'd rethink this whole thing So people like my Brother and sister and C-Kronos' brother get the proper attention and services they need.
My brother was mainly diagnosed due to a slow development when he was younger in regards of speech and walking. Now that he's older, he's functioning a lot better, he just has some issues with articulating his words properly. He is a bright kid though, and I'm not saying that just because he's family. If I think a family member is dirt stupid, I wont lie about it just to be nice. I'm also one of the few people he'll actually listen to besides his teachers at school, which is kind of funny really. He excels in pretty much every subject at school, so I'm thankful for that as well. I wasn't trying to seem offended, just trying to see if you were implying something against my brother, since I get really protective of family if I even feel that the smallest of insult was hinted at. Anyways, I bought him a copy of Kid Chameleon for the Genesis, since I felt that's a must play game for that console, lol.
I don't know why the thread has gotten the way it is after you mentioned your brother has autism but yet I'm not surprised. I just see it as your bro having fun. No need to have a discussion about the disorder, etc.
I understand completely man, and I didn't mean to Hijack your thread to get on my soapbox and I seldom talk about my personal life online anymore. Anyways back on topic Why Kid Chameleon and not say Ristar or Sparkster ect? Edit LOL what are the odds South Park is Mocking Aspergers this week. This week fucking rules
