NEW YORK, April 14, 2005 – The FBI has arrested four Chinese nationals in New York for allegedly distributing video game consoles that contain Nintendo's famous game software. With approximately 40 FBI agents, they seized more than 60,000 illegal products during five raids on April 13. The illegal products, marketed under the brand name "Power Player," contain dozens of pirated versions of popular Nintendo games like Donkey Kong®, Mario Bros.® and Duck Hunt®.

Authorities say that between September and December 2004, the defendants imported 27 cargo containers holding more than 280,000 counterfeit video game systems. After several meetings, the defendants revealed to the undercover FBI agents the locations of their warehouses and provided information about their distribution network. On April 13, the undercover agents, posing as toy distributors, arrested the four defendants and confiscated illegal products, computers and business records. The FBI conducted accompanying searches in Queens, N.Y., Brooklyn, N.Y., and Maple Shade, N.J., near Philadelphia.

Man if nintendo was smart they'd have one of those retro mini consoles like majesco makes of genesis.

If they can sell 280,000 FAMICOMS in 2005!!! Think of the revenue.
That's more sold than GBA and DS combined probably.

Good riddance, those pirate clones are crap anyways. I'm sorry, but China does not exactly have the reputation of spending much effort on R&D and actually coming up with something new, but that's probably just my skewed point of view.

It's correct for much things like dvd's and stuff and games.
But there's legal stuff in china too i think ;) Like the N64 controller with flash carts, anyone know if that sold good?

    China ique

The iQue sells here in China for about 800 RMB. The average monthly salary in Beijing is about 800 RMB. You tell me how you think the system is selling? (I've seen exactly 2 ique's, both in Carrefour, in the four months I've been here).

On the other hand, perfect copies of GBA games (on carts with boxes that look like the real thing) sell for 25 RMB ($3). GameBoy is not hugely popular (the system sells wholesale at the end of the supply chain for a bit under 600 RMB, so you're unlikely to buy one for under US$75, which is expensive), but it's much, much more common than anything else.

I actually have a few of these Power Player units. Does this mean they're going to be hard to find now?

What difference would it make, it's still literally a piece of shit lol Famiclones, bootlegs, multicarts, ugh it's all shit! only good stuff to come out of China (if even, HK & TW) are backup devices and Saturn modchips, not even modern flashcarts.

Damn dude, I had no idea you hade such hate for them. Look, I sense you had some kind of family tradegy related to a famiclone somehow, like maybe your whole family was buried in an avalance of them, or maybe one gained sentience and like turned into a robotic famiclone killing machine and scarred you for life, all I'm saying is like it's time to get past that. You know, fear leads to anger, and anger leads to hate, and hate leads to obsessive masturbation, etc. Turn away from the dark side Kyuusaku, join your famicom brothers and we can like, bring peace to the galaxy and shit.

Anyway, I suppose since they're a dime a dozen a Famiclone can't really be worth anything, not to people who don't collect them that is.

Theres something for everyone but yes I really do hate famiclones, I'm a devout Nintendo Family Computer fan, I've seen it all and I know that nothing beats a 1989 model Famicom in terms of reliability, style, audio fidelity and with a video mod, video quality. I can't be converted to the other side. First of all I can't take a console in a controller seriously, those are the most irratating famiclones! I can't even take it as a joke, it's not funny anymore. I didn't mind famiclones so much when there weren't 50 for every real famicom in the world. eBay is sickening now due to Gametech Neo-Famis and the endless amount of people selling them. I seriously can't understand people's fascenation with them because they just, suck! They're intended to be cheap sucky replacements for people who don't want to pay for a legit Famicom. Another thing I don't understand about people collecting them is that the only thing that's different between EVERY famiclone is it's case. Internally they contain either one of the following: inaccurately cloned CPU/PPU, inaccurate "FC on a chip" ASIC. Thats weak! Whenever I need a capacitor or a DC jack, I first go to my Famiclones!

Kyuusaku, is there something special about 1989 Famicoms? Are these the newer restyled AV ones?

Close, they're only like 5x cleaner than grungy old 1984 FC. They have the highest quality PCBs, same as 1993 AV FC, they also might have an ASIC like the AV FC for fewer discrete parts. They output the nicest RF. Some 1989/1990 FC may have that annoying metal shielding over the connector though. If you want an old FC, hunt for a 1988-1990. If you like the old Famicom but want clean video, there are mods out there that can deliver a AV FC quality composite, I bought one board and compared it to my AV FC, I couldn't tell the difference.

I'd probably get an AV FC if I was gonna get one. NTSC RF is pretty useless for me over here, and even if I wanted to see composite NTSC in colour I'd still need to buy a new TV set!
