When they don't do something like emulatoing something like the tapwave zodiac. This also applies for Shadow warrior on android.
Am I the only one who was creeped the hell out by that talking hand video? Holy sh17! Other than that, good work, good luck
The great irony is that almost everybody involved in emulating the 64DD never had one. 64DD emulation just happened. MESS is a very different architecture than other emulators, never mind scope. If converting the codebase to other emulators was simple it would have already been done. Emulation of it is a little incomplete. For instance, it has a micro sequencer that's (probably) used to assign mechanical drive settings for reads, writes, and seeks. It isn't understood at all. If ever a retail unit could write its own disk it will be done via new seq settings. There's plenty of other things unemulated at this point too. We're still reversing the Capture Cart, Modem Cart, Smart Media Cart, Morita Shogi's modem, and VRUs from software. The Randnet keyboard still needs to be mapped out, and there's some other novelty controllers like the Densha de Go train controller, the fishing controller, and bio sensor,.
Can anyone help me get this working with Project64? I'm running the offical 2.2 build from the website and I set the mem size to 8MB but I still get fatal errors. Thanks! -doulomb
You need to use the most recent build, which currently is this one: http://www.emucr.com/2015/05/project64-git-20150526.html
Just as a heads up a guy named saturnu made a special menu for the Everdrive 64 that's able to run the games. It's on krikzz forum: http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=2978.15
The only one that didn't boot was Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina - Ura Zelda (April Fools). Which I have no idea what's is about. I know the zelda ocarina of time but I never knew about this community april fools zelda. Is there any place I can read about it?
Zoinkity made it. It has some Zelda data from OoT, if you change the whole System Area into a cartridge header, a video plays. It's pretty much this one: (slightly cut and a different intro). It's not really worth playing around. I left it there for fun but you shouldn't really care about it. To make up for this joke, I released a real SNES prototype ROM of Sound Fantasy (aka Sound Factory), dumped by an anonymous donor that I can't really disclose of course.
That clear things up. Zoinkity seems like an interesting person. This video and the one with the talking hand are kind of funny/bizarre. But was there ever any hint that a Disk version of Zelda ever existed? Or there's not even a rumor around anymore? BTW, are you going to convert the mario 64 disk version like the other games? or is Zoinkity going to do it?
There was a very rare disk version of Zelda that came to my attention a few years ago. Luckily someone was able to showcase most of it on youtube. Check it out here. -doulomb
LOL! I still have to put my hands on a philips cd-i to play this "awesome" game. I don't know if this makes things better or worse.
Ura Zelda/Master Quest was supposed to be a expansion disk. This April Fools disk was supposed to be that way (interestingly, it black screens OoT instead of throwing an error). I didn't convert anything. Zoinkity has done everything. And about Super Mario 64 Disk Version, he already tried, it's actually a nightmare to get it to work properly, and it's not worth the effort. If you want to play it, gotta use MESS. The only thing I've done is making a 64DD dumper, made PJ64 compatible with conversions, added N64 Mouse support on MESS and PJ64, and a beautiful page for 64DD dumps. That's all.
Zoinkity, do you know if Krom has finished the Sim City 64 translation? I ask because Saturnu has gotten these games to run on the Everdrive 64 (see http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=2978.0 for details) and an English version of Sim City 64 would be amazing. Thanks for all of your hard work, by the way.
How do the conversions work by the way? Is there any where those who are interested can view the technical explanation? Thanks -doulomb
These things never stop to amaze me, really cool to see 64DD games run without the actual 64DD On the longrun this surely will effect the physical 64DD price in a positive way, and making it more affordable for the purists who wan't the actual unit.
The original dump of Mario 64 Disk Version is on there, but it would be nice if someone could convert it to .n64!
