Why do I get the feeling that this will be a 10 dollar game on the dsiware store, and be little more than a tech demo...
Umm. Can you even use both cameras at the same time on the DSi ( in game)? I'd assume the hw probably only lets you use one at a time (but that means it runs a bit delayed between the two). The screenshot of the game shows them using both since you have the room in the picture but also the guys face in the top right. I wait to see if this can amount to anything more then a silly tech demo. Still not a solid reason why someone should buy a DSi. I think Mr Driller is a far better reason then this and thats just a port. I get the same feeling.
When the DS first came out, a handful of titles used to microphone. Anybody think of any recent games that use it now? We'll see a small amount of games like this that use the camera and then probably never again.
I really hope this turns out as good as it sounds. Sounds like this could be another one for non-gamers too (recently i have been laughing at my family playing Warioware on the DSi)
the point was innovation through the use of one's own environment, and so far that's unique to the DSi and its shitty cams. I m looking forward to some imaginative implimentations personally, and it's too early to condemn it just because it's got cheap components as a whole - after all, so did the DS but I ve had a good share of fun with it, and likewise the wii. Re 10 dollar comment: PS: apparently this is an adventure title, not a demo, so read up the whole thing before you rush to post. The whole ghost-catching thing is supposed to be a part of the gameplay, not the sole gameplay element. Case in point being Hotel Dusk, one of the best games I ve ever played and it was thanks to the DS and its low-end tech that it was so immersive.
It really is dissapointing to see negative responses about this title, so much is said about the shovelware that is being released nowadays but as soon as something new and interesting like this comes along it is bashed by the hardcore gamers What do people want from the DS, more crappy ports like call of duty or whatever FPS is the next "big thing"?
I guess that's because people already played similar games on their cellphones [mosquito and ghost hunting using the phone camera], plus there was EyeToy. After seeing DSi commercials showing people all giggly and shit over an option to change hue of the DSi camera image, I kind of stopped wanting the damn thing alltogether. This game sounds like something that could either be moderately fun or total crap, and that's what most people here react to. Or it would at least appear so, as I can only speak for myself.
so it's alright to bash an adventure game that partially uses the space you move in for the purposes of advancing story and gameplay but it's obscene to say project trico is cliche and not much different from its predecessors? Both instances being judged on mere preview alas. if anything this is arguably more original than the gimmicky slap-happy EyeToy games. Besides, if the EyeToy or PSeye (which I do own) was so hot there'd be more games for it, especially at this peripheral-laden era of gaming, no? I use both my XBOX Vision camera and PSeye as PC webcams for my family, and that's the most use they ll see in a lifetime! I can sense the fanboy inside some of you ladies and it's always the same culprits not having a single good word to say about anything nintendo-related, which is fine, but it shouldn't be taken as a serious or objective comment. The whole point of being an adult about something is to wheigh all the sides and have fair judgment, leaving the bias of personal taste or preference aside for a moment;-)
Eyetoy used a fixed camera and i'm sure there was nothing for it that compares to this (Correct me if i'm wrong, i don't claim to be perfect). Ok so it has been around on cellphones for a while and there are similar titles but for every title like this there has to be at least 50 FPS on modern consoles. I'm not saying that the game is going to be great, i haven't played it but i do like to see a company try something different.
I did weigh all the sides, and even though I don't own a DSi, I do own the regular and Lite versions of NDS. Personally, I don't care who manufactures a platform as long as I get my games. I'll buy any console as long as there are decent titles for it, and even that isn't a must. This game, though ... It doesn't seem all that innovative as I've seen this concept being implemented in mobile phone games on numerous occasions - The game layer over real world image I mean. I know it's just an element of the game, but as it was used to promote this title, I guess it can be regarded as a main treat. P.S. - Hotel Dusk, hands down best adventure game on the DS and one of the better ones in general. Once I started playing this thing, I couldn't stop. Just goes to show you how far a story and design can take a game.
I can understand the sceptisism surrounding this concept, since I myself had seen Mosquito circa 2004 and didn't think much of it. That said, I had a touch-screen smartphone since 2003/4 but it wasn't until the DS arrived that I really appreciated what a touch-screen can do to improve gameplay. I m still baffled as to why the P800 didn't have any noteworthy touch-based games but I guess it all comes down to gameplay mechanics, presentation and of course, polish.
Final Fantasy was/is boring and that used to sell like hotcakes on past nintendo consoles, so don't worry, you're still with us
