FIRST OF ALL THIS IS JUST A MOCKUP OR A JOKE! REMEMBER IT! A few times ago, Kevin asked me if i had any idea to make the forum more lively and make people more active in discussion... I'm posting this in OT because i had no word of this with kevin or anyone else and just to see it it would be feasible... A magazine dedicated to old and obscure games, with in dept analysys of consoles, devkits, un relased and obscure games, and retrogaming and game reviews in general... Just think of this topic as a nail in you ass 8it bothers a lot doesn't it?) and have fun trying to think about it Karsten
If it was printed it would never break even, unless you charged a heck of a lot for it. PDF or nothing.
yes it would be a dream... people working all togheter to make such a thing... posting reviews, togheter correcting spellings and writing "common rewievs" choosing paging and such, submitting pictures, until the magazine issue is ready...
I wouldn't think it would cost too much to print it. People do this sort of thing at FedEx/Kinko's all the time with "Newsletters" and club magazines and stuff. Price it at $6-10USD and it shouldn't be too unaffordable...I've seen niche magazines sell for much more.
Gamer's quarter is just as niche, and they print (very nicely too, I might add, and cost about a fiver per issue iirc). Ok, they aren't making a living or anything (to my knowledge) but they must be breaking even.
It would be an event! ^^ Count me in! xD Edit : besides, you could sell it through eBay. And surely if you putted some intresting articles about "obscure" and never released videogames you could catch up enough attention.
It sounds like an awesome idea, but I think you'd have to pay for a professional journalist or editor to tidy up the articles if you were going to use the forum to source them hehe. Otherwise a revamp of the old website would be the best idea.
A website works a lot better, trust me Even with posting my magazine on various websites and forums (probably 5 or 6 bigger forums), I still didnt get the hits like I do now from simply having more things on google and stuffs
considering all this stuff belongs to the "confidential" bit of the contract of developers, companies wouldn't be too happy seeing their devkits unveiled to the public and it could spell trouble. Nice idea nevertheless
If that were the case, then it wouldnt be posted here even. Everyone that reveals information knows their limits for the most part it would seem, and most of it is still up on the net, so a magazine wouldnt hurt too much. But still, a website works better ;0
You could get a small run printed for a cheap price, 100 for around $217. Which of course you'd only have to sell a few at $5 to make the cash back. It depends on how nice you make it, how nice the covers and paper inside is, how large it is, etc. Before my days on the internet I used to put out a cheap little fanzine, it was a blast. The coolest part is once it gets around people start sending you stuff to review for free (in my case music, here it would be games I suppose.)
Here's one of the least expensive printers I've been able to find: http://www.egoworks.com/dreamweaverpress/printing.html About $200 for 100 books, 36 pages, digest size seems to be the best deal. If any of you guys are serious about this I'd love to contriubute and I'll even put in some money. It's been a while since I've self published anything, I used to love doing it.
Man, that would be outstanding. If you guys are serious about this I would be glad to contribute in any way that would be helpful. (financially or articles/editing)
