I have a few blank gamecube nr discs now, and I’m really curious about if it’s still possible to write onto one of them. I’ve seen some posts on here from a few years ago, and of course there’s that fake wind waker prototype.

Is it still possible and would someone be willing to help me?

Slippery slope, so easy to make more fakes. See what happened with the Dreamcast prototypes.

So people don’t typically like to do this?

No, most people that can won't help out because it can lead to bootleg prototypes.

    Fair enough, I understand that.

If by any chance someone is willing to consider, let me know.

Also I was just wondering... perhaps I could just avoid this slippery slope entirely. Because NR discs don’t have a barcode, and I assume the nr reader doesn’t check for one, what if I just put a back up inside that was burned on a regular mini dvd? Would the nr reader play it?

Yes possible, Yes people have the equipment (myself included). Like Borman said, you are unlikely to get anyone to help though.

No good can come of it. Mine is used for dumping only.

The writer can also be used for dumping?

Interesting, even the dev stuff is backwards compatible.

Thanks for the replies. I'm probably just going to give up on this. I may keep an eye out for a writer, but I don't think I wanna go that deep into this.

    Talk to @bowser22
He made that fake Wind Waker discs, so I assume he has the tools and is willing to use them.

I thought be bought it? Far as I know, at no point did he claim to have made it himself

I don't have the equipment required to produce NR discs and I don't appreciate your assumptions. Whats your problem with me?

    When else have we interacted?
Who would make a pretty convincing Wind Waker beta and then leave it in an NR reader as you claim? Makes more sense that you made the disc yourself and concocted the back story.

Your story requires us to believe that:
    A) somebody made this for their personal collection and forgot about it
    or
    B) somebody made it and sold it to somebody else and it meant so little to the person that bought it that they left it in a console that they then sold.

There are some other details, such as having to press z on controller 3 to bring up the debugger, that are a little strange. That's not a key combo you just stumble across, yet you have a picture of the debugger open like it was no big deal. Maybe you knew it was there?

Then there's this quote from here: https://assemblergames.com/threads/nr-writer.67032/

You can think whatever you'd like, coming on here and randomly spewing at me isn't really called for. My story doesn't require you to believe anything. I was looking for a value on a particular piece I had so I made a thread. I was under the impression at a time that a writer had the ability to read and dump NR discs and somehow thought I could reverse engineer it to do my own dumping.
