I should take photos of Mario no Photopi to post it in this thread It’s an N64 cartridge with two SmartMedia slots on top. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can’t exactly understand how to work it, but I realized I have a SmartMedia reader in an old computer so I’m going to have to see what I can do with it. It came with a SmartMedia card and labels for it with some Nintendo characters on them, as well as an (extremely generic) smartmedia…wallet? if you could call it that, and some more stuff.
Any of you guys ever heard of the GB KISS Link? It's an infrared modem accessory developed by Hudson Soft back in the 1990s, and is optimized for GameBoy games that use Hudson's GB KISS technology, which was exclusive to Japan. Certain GB games have KISS, which allows data transfer between players playing the same game via IR transmission with specialzed game cartridges that feature an IR communication port built into them. All GB KISS games included a utility for managing and transferring files (both game data and text messages). Each GB KISS cart allocated six memory slots for game data (i.e. save states, user-created maps, con- tent downloaded from internet) and 18 slots for text messages. Yes, that's right, with "GB KISS MAIL" you could compose text messages (both kana / kanji and Roman alphabet available) and manage your mailbox. Then, with GB KISS, you could send (and receive) messages from your friends. The appearance of the IR data transfer process made it appear that the GameBoys were "kissing each other", hence the name. Now, to the GB KISS Link. It's an infrared modem that you connected to your personal computer, and its sole purpose was to allow you to transfer files between a GB KISS cartridge and a PC. Exclusive game content (i.e. extra levels) could be downloaded from Hudson's website, saved onto your PC, and then transferred to Gameboy via the GB KISS LINK modem. (PC Windows 95 compatible) I never knew that it existed, until I watched the new AVGN episode that talked about GameBoy accessories tonight. Here's a link to the info I found on the GB KISS thing: http://nectaris.tg-16.com/GB-KISS-LINK-FAQ-hudson-gameboy-nectaris.html
I had the one of very early VGA box for the original Xbox. Being an idiot I sold it on eBay around 2007/2008
Ever hear of the ASCII Sphere 360 for the PS1, that weird gamepad with that large control ball optimized for 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) games like Forsaken? Well, before that was the SpaceTec SpaceOrb 360, which also has that 6DOF ball. Even fewer remember the Spaceball Avenger, which again has that ball. Those controllers are based on the Spaceball line of 6DOF input devices used in 3D object manipulation on high-end workstations like SGI. Well, get this; There was going to be a version of the Spaceball Avenger for the Atari Jaguar of all consoles, but it never made it past the prototype stage, for obvious reasons. Oh man, that brings back memories. It’s not particularly related, but in case anyone else misses that game too: https://github.com/ForsakenX/forsaken/wiki I have the music, too if anyone wants it… including some alternate versions of some of the tracks.
