Advertising is a lost Art...esp in gaming

Ads for games no don't really stand out and chances are if you buy a game you wanted it to begin with not because of the ad.

Even the CDI had great ads

I heard Matt got a Sega Genesis

    I'll take both!

    Genesis does

How about you guys what classic ads (print or otherwise) do you remember?

In general all ads have drastically changed from decade to decade. Some of the old ads from the 80s and 90s are very bizarre and funny. But it seems to me most ads from the last 10 years are very forgettable. But maybe they aren't to little kids.

How'd that url get in the subject anyway.

90s ads were the best even if they were not that different from 80s ads.

Yeah, 90's game ads where great.

Meh, ads and those who make them are far too up their own asses these days.

It's funny how advertisers used to be funny people, but lately they all seem over the top, they sell a yogurt like if it was some divine enlightment.

You can all thank apple and starbucks with their "spiritual experience" strategies, which mainly consists of making people feel superior if they buy their products, and that they MUST be HAPPY when they do, no questions asked.

In reality; I hate almost all VG TV ads... but the MATT HAS A GENESIS one rocks

My favorite type of modern day bullshot advertisement are those with all those cool, hip and trendy people who gather in front of a game console and totally enjoy it to the limit - no booze, no drugs, no pizza, no nothing - only pure 110% pure fun on their 60th floor Central Park-view sunny-side apartment! (usually with the black behemoth itself, w/no cables attached, just standing on the floor in a living room arranged by a blind donkey, while the trendy youth puts on their best facial expressions to show how great fun that FMV shot applied to the TV really is)

Ooops... hope it wasn't too obvious that I was talking about the cool Sony PS3 advertisement stock footage :(

(I seem to recall there being some similar shots from Activision for that Tony Hawk game with the skateboard too... so cool...)

Yeah, Gaiares totally smokes, whatever that means.

Maybe it's just 90s nostalgia, but Sega's TV ads were always classic to me.

The SNES Zelda japanese commercial is absolutely insane. The only way I can explain that is I heard M. Jackson was very popular in Japan and would guess that has something to do with why they did it like that.

I think I saw the Sonic 3 commercial before. It's pretty crazy.

    That reminded me of the Sonic & Knuckles commercial;
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hRSuTv3Jzk

I've always seen that ad as some weird symbolic mockery deal. Where the two midgets are some sort of representation of two halves (Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Sonic & Knuckles) that together form the mass of one whole man (or in this case: game)

I remember that I got Sonic 3 for free thanks to McDonalds (they had a give away contest and I magically won).
